Popular Post samuijimmy
^ I guess the bees all came south and did a better job of pollinating .....All look pretty loaded all round the southern areas....(PhangNga, Ranong, Chumphon Surratthannii anyways, from my observations running around in the last week or so) ..... We have had very little rain in at least three months, so it is surprising to see so much... lots of "wind falls" already on the ground too! The corn coming along quite well too... Popular Post shaggy1969
What a difference one season can make to the landscape. The two photos below were taken from the same spot but at different times of the year. The first one was from August 2013 and the second January 2014.
Popular Post Ron19
Found one of our trees that is doing quite well.It is only around 2 metres high and what is shown here is only a small section of what it is on the tree. There is another tree about 5 metres away that I posted here when it was practicly covered in blossom but while it has some fruit on it there is nothing like the quantity or quality shown here. Popular Post T_Dog
Had one set of stunted fruit appear and waited another day and two more showed up. Tried to cut off that blossom but a simple twist was all it took to get it removed. I'm wondering how many days before harvest but the better half is excited about making Banana Flower Salad as long as the dog doesn't run off with it!

Well done.I really don't know exactly how long it takes to ripen,it would probably depend on conditions and i expect it would be at least a couple of months.Just keep a check on it and wait for the 1st banana to turn yellow and that's when it is time to bring it down tree and all.As far as removing the blossom,my wife uses a long bamboo pole and pushes the pointy end to the side and up.Must try that myself next time making sure to dodge the sap as I do so. When i was growing bananas many years ago we used to put blue plastic bags on them to ripen then quicker and more evenly and help the the bananas at the back of the bunch ,away from the light and sun, develop more and the bags would also help to protect them from the fruit bats . You can also remove the flower bell so the bananas that have developed on the bunch already will grow larger. Appreciate your earlier advice Ron; spot on. Regarding that sap, I got an armful as soon as it broke off. The juices of new birth!
Popular Post Ron19
Had a storm go through the village last night with thunder, heavy rain and strong wind.Didn't notice any major damage this morning with the only damage appeared to be a coconut tree and some banana trees on several properties including ours.Banana trees seem to be susceptible any wind above a certain strength.

Popular Post shaggy1969
@Ron....I hit the like button mate in appreciation of the photos you posted and not because I liked the damage that I saw. I sincerely hope that not too many of your banana trees were damaged in the storm and hopefully you will still get a good crop out of your remaining trees. Our damage was minimal and occured amongst trees already established.Only lost one tree and I managed to save another by propping it up.
