Lite Beer
A border run will get you 15 days. You need to go to a Thai Consulate and apply for a Tourist Visa. You might even get a double entry in Laos.
SinCityGr8One
As an alternative I went to the Thai Consulate in Kotha Baru, Malaysia and received my 60 day Tourist VISA a couple of years ago. The Consulate is closed on Friday and Saturday due to respect of the Muslim Religion in Malaysia. I took the train from BKK to Songi Kalok and and then a Motorbike Taxi to the Malaysia Border. I walked across the Border into Malaysia and got my VISA stamp for Malaysia then took a nearby taxi to Kotha Baru. I stayed at a hotel nearby the Thai Consulate. I dropped my Passport and paperwork off the next morning and picked it up the following afternoon with a 60 day 2- entry Tourist VISA. Did the same thing again 2 Months later and received a 60 day single entry Tourist VISA. Both times were problem and hassle free.
mrtoad
The Thai Embassy in PP are not very helpful, and seem to be slow in processing, although for an extra unofficial fee it can be speeded up. Laos seems to be the best option locally.
jamhar
Jack golf visa run to cambodia jackgolf seems to think that you can go to the border to get a new tourist visa. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of this? also the paperwork involved, time it takes and cost involved? Also a recommendation for a cheap room with wifi and AC on the cambodian side while i wait? PS i'm headed out tomorrow moring at 6AM so a quick answer would be greatly appreciated. (I would have posted earlier but the wifi has been down at my location for several days, and i was luckly to find this internet cafe ) I'll make my way back to this cafe later this afternoon for some reply's hopefully Thanks for any replies in advance. lopburi3
The site provides the price and hotel information - it is a package deal only AFAIK - but make sure it is still offered as such trips have been on and off due to visa processing delays over the past year or so. jamhar
Thanks lb3. i saw that. Ive been to the place jackgolf advertises. Was not impressed enough to spend the $60/night for it. Id rather stay at the $15 night place i found. There's 2 listed in the popular search sites via google. but only 2 listed. I'm thinking i recall seeing several on the main drag leading out of Poipet on my way to Angkor Wat recently. I'll roll the dice (since a casino trip is in order) and report back in, after returning. I'm hoping that its better than the fleabag i stayed in, in Bakersfield California, on my way to a backpacking trip. Anything close to a motel 6 with a strong working AC and I'm happy. I'll also roll the dice and see what i can get out of the visa services at the border. It worked out well with my re-entry on my last trip out to the Cambodian boarder. Thanks anyways. I'll report back on my success or failure. Wish me luck!
lopburi3
I would not be giving my passport to any such unknown visa agent for a trip out of my hands for the best part of a week and pray it comes back. Would strongly advise going to PP if not using a firm you are sure about for such - and even then I would be doing it myself.
bangkokburning
I routinely make it to the border and back to our flat by 6pm. Long trip but nit at all difficult. Cost is now down to 1225 and includes: transport, visa, quick lunch, drinks, airport link (to bkk) and 1L Jim Beam. PS - Ive read very few accounts of trouble giving ones passport to a runner but would also add I think it's one of the stupidest and laziest things a person could do. As I was once told...your passport is your life!! This is no more true than on a border, especially the Cambodian border. PPS - I don't even give my passport to agents insideca country. I would not even give my pp to the security guards that try to game you for expedite services around the Thai embassy. Mic Samui
i got a tourist visa in phenom pehn(PP) around 9 months ago. First of all it took around a week to get my passport back from embassy with the visa(although you may be able to get it processed quicker trough a visa agent). Second of all phenom pehn is not a nice place to stay so don't really want to have to stay there the only nice parts of cambodia in my opinion is siemp reap south(sihanoukville) is ok for beaches but not as good as thailand. So if going to cambodia will need to PP first then go somewhere else that is pleasant then go back to PP again and exit cambodia. I think Lao is a much better option have a look at the active threads for lao at the moment in this section are at least 3/4 and a double entry tourist visa is available there too. More importantly visa will be proccessed over one night
phuketrichard
everyone has different opinions of Cambodia, Personally i love it there ( not more than Thailand) and lived in PP for 8 months in 2008-09 SR is great but ONLY cause Angkor Wat is there. If ur getting a tourist visa use an agent takes 3 days MAX an if u want it faster it cost ya a little more. No double entries thou If it took ya a week u must have turned it in before the weekend ( like Thursday) or during a THAI/Cambodian holiday Edited May 20, 2013 by phuketrichard
