BAGHDAD, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) -- A suicide attacker targeted a funeral procession for a local politician in northern Iraq, killing several people at the mosque, local media reported Wednesday.

The incident occurred at a mosque in Tuz Khurmatu, located around 90 kilometers (55 miles) south of Kirkuk, when the bomber walked into a large crowd at the funeral and detonated his explosives.

The exact number of fatal victims was not immediately known, but some reports said at least 18 and as many as over 40 people had died in the blast. The funeral was being held for a politician who had been shot and killed the previous day.

No group of terrorist organization has claimed responsibility of the attack.

Last week, a series of attack killed dozens of people in the Middle Eastern country. In Kirkuk, a suicide bomber targeted the Kurdistan Democratic Party, killing at least 27 people, while over 100 were also injured. In Tuz Khurmatu, a car bomb near the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan offices killed at least three people.
