Can anybody shed some light on the FT (Float Time) charge on the electric bill. I believe it is a fuel adjustment charge but I don't know what that really is nor could the electric office explain. Last January it was 0.00 by July it was .30 bht per unit, Dec. it was .48 and this Jan. .52 and I was told when paying this bill yesterday it will be changing every four months. Not that big of a money issue (308 bht this mnt on my bill) as in the big picture the cost of living here is very favorable so just more out of curiosity. I also believe it is 3x more if one has 3 Phase electric as I do and I noticed once (Dec. 2010) that I actually got a 30 bht credit since there was a -.06 FT on my bill. No conspiracy theories please biggrin.png.

It's called Fuel Tariff.

New FT rate delayed to June-August bills (May 2012)

The Energy Regulatory Commission of Thailand (ERC) has resolved to delay its plan to collect the fuel adjustment tariff (FT) at a new rate of 30 satang per unit, to help Thai families cope with rising daily expenses.

ERC Chairman, Mr. Direk Lavansiri said the new rate will be delayed until June – August this year. The decision to postpone the new rate, the Chairman said, was due to public concerns over the rising cost of living and higher electricity consumption in summer.

As a result, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) will have to shoulder higher excess cost, which will climb up from 10 to 14 billion baht. Mr. Direk, however, insisted that the new FT rate is still lower than the true cost of FT charge, which is 57.45 satang per unit.

The FT charge is an additional cost incurred on the bill and changes according to the oil price. The ERC Chairman said the reason why the FT charge has not been adjusted for quite some time was that the ERC wanted to return to consumers the investment money saved by the country’s power producers namely EGAT, the Provincial Electricity Authority and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority.

There was also an increase last month which would be the .52 you see. This is a cap for the year 2013 and the rest is subsidized. The zero appears to be an anomaly or perhaps a temporary measure to increase spending power of the poor.

Yes, my latest bill at 0.5204, a total of 51.00B surcharge making the bill 385B inc VAT. Not sure how I will live.

Was at the in-laws over New Year. Someone came around with a bill for the water and electric. Wife told me to put my hand in my pocket, very unusual and deserving of a stern word later. Water for the month less than 10B. Electric less than 100B. The stern word did not materialise for some reason.

Energy in this country is ridiculously cheap.

I do not agree with that statement. I consider it quite expensive.

I guess you don't use much electric. My bill FT surcharge is 1,250 baht making the bill 11,266 baht inc VAT. For sure I have a number of air cons running much of the day, plus pool pump.
