Measurement Taken From Where?

Featured Replies

When distances are given from Bangkok exactly where is the point that it is taken from? I think in London it is Marble Arch.

In Thailand distances on Road Markers etc. are measured from the Bangkok City Pillar (Lak Muang) which is located across the street from the eastern wall of Wat Phra Kaeo to the Southeast of Sanam Luang.

about every provincial town in TH-surely every capital of chiangwat, has its own ''Lak Muang'' often with the ''official'' tome clock, this is the )-marker for that chiangwat.

In BKK it is however a marker at the Democrazy Monument circle-there is even a kind of explaining monument there.

As such it is a isolationist britsh thing- most Euro countries do not have such a thing.

Is that right? There is a marker in front of Notre Dame in Paris denoting zero point. Similarly, in Madrid, in front of the clock tower on Puerta del Sol.

Information can be found here on the history of Milestones and Kilometre Zero. Thailand apparently has two, one for the roads and one for the railway system. This information is from Wikipedia, so it may or may not be totally correct.

re.

as Kilometre Zero. The National Highway's Kilometre Zero is the Democracy Monument on Ratchadamnoen Avenue Bangkok
