Just tried to access Gaydar (using True isp) to find myself redirected to the Thai Ministry of Infomation. website instead. Is there something I should know about the Ministry that may make it worth a visit?! I see Gay.com is still OK but maybe it's a matter of time now before that's blocked also?

Statement from Gaybutton:

As many of you are aware, I have taken my web site, www.gaybutton.com , offline because it has been blocked from within Thailand. The reasons for the block have not been communicated to me. Because the block is sponsored by the Thai government, I will not attempt to defy or circumvent the block. I removed the web site from the Internet as soon as I became aware of the block.

I have chosen to leave the web site offline and I do not anticipate restoring it, at least not for the foreseeable future. If my plans ever change I will ask that a notice be posted here.

I am aware that many are saddened to see the web site removed. I am also aware that some are delighted. I very much appreciate the E-mails I have been receiving in support.

The truth is that for a long time I have been considering ending the web site anyway because of constant technical problems with my web site host, the amount of time I spend working on the web site, along with dealing with problems ranging from flamers to an attempt to blackmail me into doing the bidding of someone who dislikes 'Hedda.'

Instead of being fun, running the web site has become a chore. Therefore, since the block has happened on top of all the other problems, it seems pointless to me to continue.

However, it does present an opportunity that I have been trying to find time to pursue. For years I have been saying that I would like to write a book about Thailand that would be of interest to the gay community. Now that I no longer will be running a web site, I intend to turn my attention to writing the book.

In the meantime, the articles I have written are available upon request. The most popular article I ever wrote was the one about how to obtain the retirement visa. I will be happy to send any of the articles to those who request them.

For those who have requests or otherwise wish to communicate with me, I can be reached at the following E-mail address: [email protected] .

Again, I appreciate all the support from those who have enjoyed my web site over the years.

Strictly for research, of course, :o I checked some porn sites and not only got into almost all of them, but they directed me to countless more that I hadn't asked for. If the govt. of Thail. is trying to restrict access, they've got about 598,867 more sites to get to.

They may not have blocked many porn sites but http://www.thailand-ladyboys-guide.com is blocked from here, hardly a 'porn' site though I can't verify this as a search for 'proxy servers' on Google reveals sites such as http://www.publicproxyservers.com being blocked also. If they're going for sites where Gays and other 'alternative' sexual types congregate, chat and are celebrated it wouldn't take them long to block out the main ones, compared to blocking all the 'porn' sites. No doubt they've asked Google to remove such unsavoury sites from their results in Thailand and they will be complying shortly...

my ISP blocked site entered without www it works with www though.

By the way gaydar.com and gaydar.co.uk are not the same website. gaydar.com is a porn website while gaydar.co.uk , gaydar.com.au , mygaydar.com etc are dating site of the same website with just a different domain suffixes. :o

Three posts deleted. As I said in the other thread, instructions on evading the blocks are a no-no. We don't want to be added to the list. :o

Well, then, we'll have to play dirty and see if you can keep up with us....

It's called civil disobedience. Ban me if you like. I have plenty of other things to keep me busy.

That means you, Mods. Are you good men, or not?

Yeah, we're gonna risk a site used by thousands getting blocked so you can make your statement. Why don't you walk into the police station, flash your identification, and visa number, and do a little disobedience there? Or are you only willing to let other people (the owners and users of this site) take the risk? **edit by cdnvic**
