just wondering if anybody can give me some info on good budget accommodation in the Layan beach area? Will be attending the Laguna marathon in June and would like to get something booked.

That video is 2 years old...it's recovered since the "clean up"

The top of Layan in the national park is great. Love going there and having a BBQ with no other Farang there to annoy me. You can even camp there....

(Of course according to Hansgruber I have an invested interest in the area so i must be biased and making it up.)

Loads of cheap spots to stay in Bangtao...both of which are close to laguna. Have a look on agoda or booking.com
