Vientiane Or Savanakhet ? Pros And Cons ?

Featured Replies

Greetings all. I finished up my 60 day tourist visa and my 30 day extension will expire February 14. I'm in Bangkok. For those of you much more experienced, where would you advise going for the multiple entry visa, Vientiane or Savanakhet ? I'll be alone, and for the moment, not very interested in doing more than getting the visa and returning to BKK (unless somebody convinces me I should play tourist). Also, I'm not against spending a bit more than the bottom line figure to get it all done.

Much thanks !

Question, did you only got a Single Entry TR Visa ??

If you have more then 3 TR visas in your passport Savanakhet is a safer bet, but if you only have 1 or 2 then Vientiane would also be oke. A friend of mine just a couple a weeks ago got his 3rd Double Entry TR Visa in Vientiane

You are asking about a 2 entry tourist visa? Vientiane is the normal route and likely your best choice. You can fly to Udon or Vientiane or travel by train/bus/van to Nong Khai and cross bridge to Laos/Vientiane.

Can you get a double(multiple) entry tourist visa in Savanakhet?

Vientiane is still the better option for a double entry tourist visa and so far this year things have been relatively easy sailing.

Easy trip by train as well. Overnighter. Stay a day or two in Nong Khai. Good place to chill for a bit before heading over to Vientiane which has some fantastic world class restaurants. So good for a few days as well.

Take your time and enjoy 4 or 5 days you may be like a lot of us and end up staying!!

OK then. Thanks for the feedback. I'll look into arranging Vientiane. For those who asked, this was my first 60 day tourist visa (single entry) and first 30 day extension.

If you have never been before Savanakhet is good and use http://www.savanvegas.com/visarun/

Get the 1st class Bus from the North Bus Station, large seats recline 170 degrees, 3 seats across only 760 - 800 baht, Casino Mini Van picks you up at Bus station, boarder is VIP and fast,, Staff at Casino do the Visa run for you.

There are 2 or 3 Companies in Bangkok that go 1 or 2 times a weeks to Vientiane by Mini Bus also everything done for you.. when i went was the Boarder that put me off also spoken over the years to others, 2 - 3 hours to get over the boarder, just so many people use that crossing, + on a Tour you must wait for everyone.. Think the main reason people got to Vientiane is it is Larger and has night life
