I need to sort quite some ill-named pictures. is MediaSort the best program out there for this purpose? anyone has a better suggestion? any help is appreciated.

There is plugin for exif available (http://www.ghisler.com/plugins.htm) and then you can use the Exif info in the Multi-Rename Tool in TC.
