February 8, 201313 yr It is tax season again and I am considering getting married to a Thai national. My question is that if I get married in Feb 2013 can I claim the spouse tax rebate of 30k baht when I submit my tax for 2012 in March?
February 8, 201313 yr No. The Tax documents to be submitted by the end of March is for the 2012 financial year, the marriage to your lady is in the 2013 financial year.
February 8, 201313 yr Author how is tax rebate paid back to me in Thailand?do i receive a cheque in the post or do i get credited to my bank account? do me and my spouse need to file our taxes to be eligible for this tax rebate of 30k?
February 8, 201313 yr It is an allowance that is deducted from your income. You do not get it as a rebate. See: http://www.rd.go.th/publish/6045.0.html
February 8, 201313 yr Author so just to be 100% clear.....if i am meant to pay 45k baht tax this year and I have a wife so I only need to pay 15k in tax and the company will have to give me back the 30k they withold for tax purposes?
February 8, 201313 yr No If your income is xxxx amount you deduct the the 30,000 from that amount which lowers your net income after all deductions that determines how much tax you pay.
February 8, 201313 yr Author dam_n....thanks for your explanation.....makes not much difference if 30k is deducted for me.......... Edited February 8, 201313 yr by carlsum1986
February 8, 201313 yr It could make a big difference if it moved you into a lower bracket. IE: from 20% to 10%.
