Has anybody done this visa run by air from BKK ?.I know I can do it by bus,but was just wondering if it is a hassle to do it by air.My back isn't the best so I dread sitting in a bus for over 10 hours

Nok Air offers fly ride service to Mukdahan via Nakhon Phanom or Sakon Nakhon.

You should contact Savan Vegas to see if they could pick you up.

Lao Airways also fly into Savvanakhet from BKK but it is much more expensive.

I flew to Nakhon Phanom a few months back. Because the border is closed at night and my flight arrived early evening there was not enough time to get to the casino so they couldn't pick me up. I had to get a limo to a hotel in Mukdahan for the night as there were no taxis at the airport.

Another option if you find flying to costly and a bus not suitable is by train in 2nd class sleeper to here in Ubon and then bus (or arrange with Savan Vegas) for about 3 hours to Mukdahan.

The flying and train/bus option would mean an extra night in a hotel (or casino) in either Mukdahan or Savannakhet but would be well worth it to avoid that long bus ride.

Plus you can make it a leisurely trip instead of rushing to the consulate the same day you arrive.

Ideally I'd like to fly in on the first day and go to the casino.Second day to arrange my visa,pick it up on the third day and fly home.The staff at the casino do all the visa work for me.

Going by bus would be quicker because you travel overnight and arrive in time for the consulate opening,do your stuff and next day passport pickup which means one less night away from home but in total more than 21 hours in a bus.
