went there a few years ago and was told they 'did not really do extensions' Now I am living in SP again I have checked on samut prakan's excellent website and see this under types of visas:

6. Extension of Stay: Those who wish to stay longer or may wish to change their type of visa must file an application for permission at the Office of Immigration Bureau located on Soi Suan Plu, off South Sathorn Road, Bangkok 10120 , Tel 02 287-3101-10 (or at http://www.immigration.go.th ). The extension of stay as well as the change of certain type of visa is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officer.

Does this mean those living in the SP area have to go to Suan Plu to extend a non immigrant O on retirement grounds and SP to do 90 day reporting?

Not sure where you found that information but it is years old - immigration except for bordering country nationals moved to Chiang Watanna for Bangkok years ago. The page concerning retirement is below link and indicates you do at that immigration office (with two copies required).

With the old immigration location it can be assumed to be an old page that has been replaced in any case. The link I provided is the current information for the extension you are interested in (it is not a visa) so suspect that was for conversion from visa exempt/tourist visa to start the process and for that some will send to Bangkok for the visa conversion. Nothing to do with actual extension of stay if you already have a non immigrant visa entry.

The title of the page you posted is titled types of visas and appears to be a copy of old MFA info.

Same website but contradictory info, I think Richard Barrow is still the site master in which case i'm sure it would be easy to clear up.

I will be going there probably this month so should find out for sure.
