Newtown shooter motivated by Norway massacre: source

BEIJING, Feb. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Adam Lanza, who killed 26 people in Connecticut of the United States last year, was motivated by a Norwegian mass murderer.

newsjsPolice sources told the media Monday that the 20-year old Lanza was obsessed with Anders Breivik, who murdered 77 people in July 2011.

Lanza believed that he was in a direct competition with Breivik. He intended to exceed Breivik's death toll. Lanza targeted nearby Sandy Hook Elementary School because it was the "easiest target" with the "largest cluster of people," the source noted.

On Dec. 14 of last year, Lanza killed his mother before carrying out the shooting rampage. He sprayed two classrooms with bullets and killed 20 first graders and six adults.

Unlike Breivik, who surrendered, Lanza turned the gun to himself as police closed in.

Xinhua is a news agency. They have reporters world wide, If you don't believe them try a news search or a search for newtown easiest target, and you will find that major news sources in the USA, UK also reported it. There are many other news sources that reported it as you can see here: https://www.google.c...r=English&hl=en

Xinhua is China's largest news agency - check them out at http://en.wikipedia....hua_News_Agency, and Xinhua says in the report that they got the information from police sources. Believing U.S. news sources these days is just as hard to do. So if one does not believe that the story is accurate there are plenty of sources to test that idea.

Maybe he was motivated by the Norwegian, but he certainly had misunderstood the purpose of Breiviks killings.

While this shootout was a random act of evil, Breivik had a message to give, and murdered for what he believed was a wrong course of politics.

Both totally crazy, but not much in common besides that, in my opinion.

The US media has deliberately minimized reporting n the shooter as it is felt that a desire for fame/notoriety is one of the motivating forces behind this sort of thing and that denying that to the perpetrators might avoid encouraging others.

(Should have adapted this policy long ago, but this particular shooting aroused decency in places it's not often found, the press being one).

That is probably why you aren't seeing it from a US wire service.

The only 'motivation' I see from Breivik is perhaps the body count, just as someone sane may be motivated to beat the top score on a pinball machine so they can put their initials on top of the high score board.

I saw an article about his mother. She seemed like a really good lady that made a lot of sacrifices for her son. Four bullets to the head was her reward. At least she was asleep and did not know that what she would have died for did that to her.
