dutchdellboy2
What are the advantages of having a Thai passport in the name of your farang husband but keeping your ID in your Thai maiden name. My girlfriend and I are getting married 21 April 2006 and I wonder if I should go with her to the Amphur and apply for a passport which would carry my family name and in the same time let her keep the Thai ID card she uses now. In fact I have no idea how it is done but heard about it through the grapevine. Any info appreciated. Marten
lopburi3
I suspect what you heard was the old policy of land ownership where they would not register land if they knew the woman had a foreign spouse (most often by name on ID card). That policy was rescinded years ago and it makes no sense not to have Passport and ID card in the same name and in your name if she desires (I advise using your name but some disagree or if she has an important family name she may have reason not to want a change). As ID is now required even for domestic travel believe family having matching names is rather important to prevent misunderstandings.
