Extension Of 30 Day Tourist Visa Possible?

Featured Replies

I got 30 days when I flew into Bangkok. Can I extend for another 30 (like I know is possible with a 60 day tourist visa), or do I need to leave the country to get another visa entirely? Thanks!

Immigration will give 7 days to leave the country.

Leave the country and return by air will give 30 days.

Return by land will give 15 days.

Or visit a Thai Consulate and apply for a Tourist Visa.

You won't be able to extend a 30 day visa exemption which is what you appear to have,by another 30 days, you may extend for another 7 days I believe.

You can extend it by 60 days if you marry a Thai, but that's another whole can of worms!

Sounds like the OP doesn't have a visa, but rather entered the country without one and was granted permission to stay, visa exempt, for 30 days because he was from one of the countries of origin that is granted this privilege.

As mentioned, an Immigration office will extend his permission to remain for 7 days, if he can show proof of on-ward travel within those 7 days or he can leave and immediately re-enter to be granted another 15 days stay, visa exempt, if entering by land or 30 days if entering by air. No need to actually stay very long in a country outside Thailand -- just walk out, walk back in and bingo -- your reward is another 15 days of permission to remain.
