My 18 Y/o Daughter Is Coming Over, Where Do I Take Her

Featured Replies

Hi ladies, my 18 y/o daughter and her best friend are coming over to Thailand from Australia later this year and I was hoping you could give me a few ideas on where I should take them. I know what the local men are like so I am advising them to avoid going out by themselves and was thinking of maybe a few of the karioke bars(I live in Surat Thani) of a night time?, I dont drink a real lot usually just at home or when we go out so I really have no idea. We will take them around the islands and to markets etc but entertainment wise I have no idea at all, really would appreciate any help/advice you can give me. sad.png

Thanks

Dennis

You live in Surat Thani? Didn't know there was a nightlife there :P

They might enjoy the karaoke, hard to say as I am not a fan myself but I know many are. Honestly I don't know Surat well at all, we go there to go to the Makro mainly.

shopping is always good, they might like that huge otop place on the way to the airport for instance.

I don't know Surat Thani either....any spas or nice beauty salons? Prices here are a bargain compared to the West so they might like that.

send her to phan ngan.

Surat be depressing

There used to be a few big thai nightclubs in Surat, near the BIG C on the bog road there but haven't been for years. I would take her over to the Islands for most of the hols, unless you are really up to date on the happenings of Surat, which it seems you are not.

Thanks, I really appreciate this, I was at a bit of a loss what to do, even my wife was unable to suggest any night time activities locally apart from karaoke bars. Sounds like the best bet is to take her to the islands although I never thought about the spas/salons, probably due to being a male. I know she will love the clothes at the markets and the silver jewellery at nakon si tammarat, thanks again for all the suggestions, they are greatly appreciated.biggrin.png

To OP

Long time since I've been there. Actually most places in Thailand will have a night life, and believe it or not if you ask around you'll find places open all days of the week - Something that's always amazed me about Thailand - where do they all come from on week days. Anyway, away from tourist areas, if you're friendly towards locals with your questions you can ask almost anything and they'll try and help out. Of course you have to use common sense, and some people are obviously dodgy, but most Thais are wonderfully friendly, and with a friend she should be OK.

As I'm getting old I googled Surat + nightlife to see if any familiar places or memories came up. Unfortunately not smile.png. Didn't recognise any of the places mentioned, but the following site looked reasonable in its overall assessments, and pretty much reminded me of my impressions there.

If the karaoke bars in Surat Thani are anything similar to the ones in Chiang Mai I would stay as far away from them as possible. I think 18 year old girls will find enough to do on the islands by themselves. That is about how old I was when I came to Thailand with a group of back packers. We had a great time getting up to all sorts of mischief. A friends 18 year old daughter did the same this year and she had a ball.
