March 8, 201313 yr I need to buy a motorbike helmet, I have an unusually large head (even for a Westerner - let alone in Asia!), 62-65 cm depending on model (24" - 25", X-large or XX-large). Been in an accident before and would like to keep my head intact next time it happens. Anyone have any idea where I could buy a helmet of that size? I live on Pha Ngan but can obviously pop over to Samui if need be. None of the rental agencies have anything that would actually provide real protection in case of an accident. Would be nice to have a comfy helmet too... Any ideas?
March 8, 201313 yr I would start at Ohm's Bike shop on the southern heading road out of Chewang. It is a very large shop - with bike bikes on the rhs and Ohm's motors on the lhs (as you head south) One the ring road past Bangkok General Hospital. If he does not have a helmet that large - he can probably order it. He sells better quality ones as well. My head is almost the same size as yours (24") and I bought one from there. Only the one of that size at the time - thank goodness it wasn't pink! My helmet is tight to get on but a very good fit once my head is in it. I bought the type with a visor. I do not like the full face bone domes. I will pm his number - maybe save you a trip http://www.ohmcyclessamui.com/ Good luck Edited March 8, 201313 yr by Tropicalevo
March 8, 201313 yr Author Cool, thanks a ton! Any idea about pricing...? Phone no.? Could save me a trip if he has to order my size. Yeah, long as it isn't pink I should be fine, lol...

March 8, 201313 yr if you want one that's going to really protect your head e bay from UK, Might cost more but depends how much you value your head. Mine was delivered to Samui and no import tax. . SHOEI but maybe expensive but I value my head and its contents for the sake of a few hundred quid.
March 8, 201313 yr Author Cheers... Sounds a bit excessive, no? Surely a bike shop can supply as good a helmet as eBay. I will have visit from UK soonish, could ask them to bring one but why would a Samui bike shop not sell a quality helmet if you pay...?

March 8, 201313 yr I would of thought that trying on the helmet was a very important part of the purchase. Not a lot of point of splashing out on a 'really good' one if it does not fit correctly. (At least this is what they told my wife when she bought one in the UK on one of her trips.)
March 8, 201313 yr It might be worth ringing the Potato V Twin shop (Harleys) on Samui 081-5571016 or 087-8866427. They do custom bikes and big monsters, so they may have monster helmets?

(At least this is what they told my wife when she bought one in the UK on one of her trips.) No point in buying a cheap one that fits well if its a piece of crap and minimal protection i would have thought. I managed anyway, measured my head and ordered appropriate size. I doubt anything Ohm sells would get passed EU standards. Anyway OP asked where he could by one that size i informed him of a way.

March 23, 201313 yr Author Popular Post I ended up going to Sumet Cycle in Bangkok and getting a nice Thai-made helmet for 2,700 baht. XL (63 cm) after a nice 10% discount from Brian, a bit of a squeeze to get it on (there's no XXL) but it works. I seem so far to be the only driver on the whole KPG with a proper helmet - I bet they'll be calling me "the helmet" soon. Thanks, Brian - brilliant service and an excellent helmet!
