Confused About Getting A Visa In Penang

Featured Replies

I am a total newbie and have been very confused about the info about getting Thai visas renewed on the internet. Any help is much appreciated!!!!

I am a US citizen. I would like to fly out of Koh Samui and stay in Penang for a few days to get a visa renewed. I currently have a 60 day single entry visa and did not get an extension. I would like either a 30 day single entry + extension or a 60 day single entry.

Can I get this in Penang? Do you recommend a hotel or visa service that could do this for me? I would like to fly there, not take a train or bus. What documents do I need besides two passport photos?

Thank you!!!!

You can get a single entry tourist visa which would give you 60 days. You apply the morning of one day and get back the next day. Visa agents are common in Penang and are very affordable.

There is no 30 day visa only a 30 day visa exempt entry which you could get by just flying out and back. Or 15 days by doing a border crossing.

You can easily get a 30 day extension at immigration for 1900 baht of your current 60 day entry.

If you have a 60 day tourist visa entry and have not overstayed you can extend for 30 days at immigration office for normal 1,900 baht fee. Your visa does not have to be valid to extend your stay.

A 30 days entry is visa exempt by air return - it is not a visa and can not be extended (more than 7 days to pack out).

A 60 day tourist visa would be available next workday from Consulate and that could be extended another 30 days as your current entry. You will need copies of your passport and visa fee in Malaysian currency. There are many hotels from cheap to expensive and many visa services will do the legwork for you although it is not hard to do yourself. It has been a decade since I traveled there but always liked the Hotel Continental myself (not Grand Continental which is a different property).

When I used to do the old visa trips I liked to stay in the hotel malaysia, was okay nothing special.

opposite is an Irish bar, and there is a great burger place that sets up outside the bar.

Also the agents down Lebuah Chulia which is out of the hotel and turn left, you will see some small foreign exchange places go down the street to your left, places down there.

Lebuh Muntree (parralel to Chulia)there is a place called cafe 75 who if you leave your passport with them at about 9am, they will return it by about 4:30 the same day. They supply a form and all you need is two photographs

the visa fee is 110 Ringet, there fee was 20 Ringet.

I just got my visa on Friday and had no problems

What you posted (110 ringet) is for a tourist visa not a non-o. I don't think same day service is available for non immigrant visas.

A single entry non-o will be 220 Ringet.

This is extremely helpful! I didn't realize I could still do a visa extension. I will just do that, and then go to Penang a month later. Thank you!

One more question... if I end up in Chanthaburi, is there an easy way to do a visa run to Cambodia from there?

Thank you!!

I did not realise the OP wanted a non-O he said

"I would like either a 30 day single entry + extension or a 60 day single entry." the visa I got was a 60 day single entry. Maybe I am missing something as I am not an expert in this

Sorry got topics mixed up. Was just doing one about O visa's.

Yes

There is border crossing on border just a short distance north of there.
