Looking For Acupunture In Cm

Ive got a very stiff and painful neck due to several car and motorbike accidents over the years as well as arthritis. I have been to our wonderful local CM chiropractor, but he told me there just wasnt much he could do to help me because my neck discs were all fused. I found a great massage therapist but sometimes she hurts me more than before i went in. I am in extreme pain daily, so I went to Rajavej and they gave me some prednisone to bring down the inflammation. Its only a short term solution.

At this point Im grasping at straws for relief, and Im wondering if anyone here has any experience with acupunturists in Chiang Mai and if it helped at all. Im trying to start an anti-inflammtion diet, but its hard to do because I have a sweet tooth and love fatty foods, my achilles heel. I would prefer to stay off daily painkillers, but those might be a last resort.

Thanks.

I only know of three practitioners here in Chang Mai. I am sure there are others.

One is on Loi Kroh road inside the old city about 400 meters right at the spot where a road comes in at an angle where there is a guest house named smiles or used to be. He and his wife both practice Chinese medicines.

The big Chinese pharmacist in the Whararot market area has one. I have used both of them to no avail. I had heard that there was one at McCormick Hospital don't know any thing about them.

Have you tried the Chiropractor at Rajavej. Tell him what is botheri9ng you and while he can not do any thing about those areas He may be able to improve the surrounding area. I myself have just come into the painful time for arthritis and at this point in time I get by with a 400 milligram tablet of Ibuprofen. I know in time it will need more.

The best of luck to you and let us know if any thing helps you.

Monkala Clinic in the Old City... Best Chinese medical treatment I've ever experienced. Tender, caring, gentle and most of all knowledgable. Man and wife doctors, and both always get rave reviews. I've been treated by the woman half a dozen times over the years, and she's always solved my problems.

I second Mungkala and personally prefer the woman practitioner.

Yes that is the one I was talking about in the old city. I have heard the Women is the best. Don't know as I have always seen the husband.

I have never had any luck with acupuncturists here or in Canada. How ever there are many people that have and I feel maybe for a different problem it will help. Can't rightly recall any one saying that it helped them for Arthritis. But no harm in trying.

The theory makes sense to me and I have been considering trying them again for my feet as I have diabetes and feel that it might work for that. Perhaps being a doctor they will have some Chinese medicines. Right now my feet are far and away better since I started getting shots with a combination of vitamin B but definitely looking for improvement. I mentioned trying an acupuncturists to my doctor and she said give it a try.

Another clinic in the Old City is the Center of Thai Traditional and Complementary Medicine. They are part of Chiang Mai University's medical school (although the doctors at the clinic are not students). Rate per session is a bit cheaper than Mungkala, although I forget the exact cost right now. I've gone to both places over the years.

Phone number is 053-949-897

The location is a block farther south of the stop light which is south of Pra Sing Post Office. East side of the street (left side when going south). Map here: http://wikimapia.org/#lat=18.7840612&lon=98.9821118&z=19&l=0&m=b

Thanks for all the information. I will follow it up.

Hellodolly - yes i went to see Dr. Philip Parry and he said my neck was all fused and there was really nothing he could move to relieve the pain. He was very informative and took his time with me, and had a good bedside manner.

A few weeks earlier, i went to see an orthopedist at Ram and the orthopedist gave me 5 years to live. He said that the arthritis and inflammation would spread to my lungs, ribs and heart and it would be impossible for me to breathe. Maybe he was right, but he took another few years off my life just telling me I only had 5 years to live. Dr. Parry told me it was hogwash, and I might be around for another 20 years. I will stand by what Dr Philip said, and hey if I only live another 5 years, I will apologize on TV to the orthopedist.

Ram sucks some times. years ago I had a physical there and asked for a x ray of my foot. The bone doctor took one look at it and said I had to get it fused. Never mind that two specialists in Canada had told me do not get it done as long as I could take the pain, A few years ago I saw Doctor Sudhee at his clinic he took x rays and said as long as I could walk 100 meter and sleep with pain killers don't do it. He went on to explain why. I am going to try to book another appointment with him at the Ram for a second opinion on my knee and hip. He is pretty much retired and only works about 4 hours a week. I was so impressed with him that even though my doctor has worked in the Mayo Clinic I want to get his opinion.

I find Dr. Parry a bit on the expensive side for Thailand but worth it. He dosen't try to get you too make appointments you don't need and he pretty well lays the facts on the line. My lower back needs a tune up every so often so I will continue to see him every once in a while.

Good luck in your search.

I went to see Mr Parry but i will not be going back, some have had good experiences with him so i wont go into detail.

If i could do it again, i would have chosen to see a sports medicine doctor instead, there is one in the list of pinned topics in the chiang mai forum portal.

I went to the pharmacy afterwards and got some Piroxicam (Fasden)and it did the trick and no stomach irritation like Ibuprofen. Etoricoxib is a stronger solution to help with the inflammation, but should be read up on before using, as it is about 100 times more localized (wiki)than piroxicam and if you have heart problems tread with caution.I havent tried etoricoxib yet.

I was recommended Piroxicam by an old war vet, they always know what the best meds are smile.png

Yoga stretches have also helped to relieve the pain for a quick temporary fix.

btw these are also motorcycle related ailments and it has been going on for over a month now, so i really do know the pain you are going through sometimes it hurted so much i felt like throwing up, but is now starting to get better. I found that staying well hydrated along with not allowing myself to get into the hunger zone helps and the pyroxicam works best if i take it NOT after a meal, as it will be prescribed to be taken after (if you read up on it its not required to be taken with food). A full glass of water quickens the effects also.

Smoking LM cigarettes makes it feel worse.

100% agree Mungkala is excellent

Have only ever had the Male practitioner

but he was excellent. I am sure the female is too

also the helpers are all very nice & caring.

Also have to agree with KRS1

Tried Parry once but being from the US was not

impressed. His chiro style is different than what I am

familiar with & I did not get any relief from it.

I actually thought he was kidding when he first did the

wind noises part accompanied by the soft technique.
