180 Day Tourist Visa Ended, Have To Do Border Run......

Featured Replies

I don't know what to expect on a border run.....I had a 180 day visa with three 60-day entries, the last entry was made on the last day of the visa (Jan 16) and my expiry is the 18th........I'm in Lamai, the border runs from here do the crossing at Ranong into Burma, also all the way down to Malaysia........I've heard the border from here is just a two-week extension, but I now don't have a visa to extend.....will they give me a 30-day nonvisa entry or just a two-weeker or what? Or is the 30 day non-visa only at airports? Will I have to show an exit ticket or what? Wondering if it's worth my while to go to Penang to get another tourist visa but I've heard even that's only for 30 days from there, not 60......advice please, have to make some decisions today, including making the trek to Cambodia and hanging there for a while until I get a visa via the embassy in Phnom Penh....but it's a decidedly long haul........plan for now is to do the border run, which I've been fortunate to find someone doing it in a private car, to Ranong, I think, but wondering what I'll get and what I'll need......

it seems you had a triple entry turist visa. Each entry on a tourist visa can be extended by 30 days for 1,900 baht at any immigraiton office. Just go to an immigraiton office and ask for an extension, fill in a form, give a copy of your passport and arrival card and give a passport size photo.

If you leave the country and return by land, you get a new entry of 15 days. if you return by air you get an entry of 30 days.

As said you get 15 days when entering Thailand through a land border.

Entering Burma will cost you $10. Entering Malaysia will be free.

Don't forget your 30 day extension at Samui Immigration. 1,900 Baht.

OK thanks to both of you, guess I'm headed for immigration office tomorrow......so the 30 day extension is possible even though my original 180 days is up? Good to know, not really into a road trip right now......was looking maybe at flights out of Krabi on Tiger if it came to it, but not having to leave Samui for now is fine by me....

Each of your 3 entries could have been extended at Immigration.

This would have given you almost 270 days.

Don't forget the passport size photo.

The 180 days is only to use your entries allowed by the visa it does not restrict you to that amount of time in the country.

You can now get a 30 day extension at immigration of your last entry.

k good to know about that passport sized photo....will get that ready today.......

my other 60 day entries were broken up by a trip to the Philippines so didn't need it back then, though if I'd known....my 2nd entry expired Jan 4 and she offered me a 30 day extension but said why not just come back on the 16th and get 60 days......which is what's ending now. Another 30 days gives me time to look into a non-immig visa and/or another 60 day from an embassy/consulate.......

TM7 , one photo, passport and 1920 Baht on Samui. The extra 20 baht is for copying anything they need to. Get there early (8.30) and it should be all over before 10.00.

Make sure your visa has not expired because if you have actually managed 180 days then it could have.

.

Right about that. it's a long visa and if done as was the case with me it was on a promo and free.

Visa validity has nothing to do with extensions of stay - as long as he is still within his 60 days permitted to stay he can extend for 30 days on a tourist visa entry.
