Well Mr B, the drawback to plans of autonomy is that they haven't even come close to hitting the negotiating table. Probably never will....

Hardline Thai Nationalists in "Bangkok" see the South as "Thai Soil" and that is an end to it.

Any compromise is an insult to 'Nation' etc....

Solutions offered by "outside" (overseas) organisations have thus far been rejected off hand as they are seen as 'interfering with Thai Affairs'...

I'm sure I don't need to go further into it all cos I don't want a holiday...but you're clued up...

You are not going to get a holiday for simply disagreeing with me. That will never happen.

But the idea of autonomy was floated in the latest Malaysian-brokered talks and they were floated by the government side. Now how serious that was or to what detail, I don't know. But they idea was floated and was received by the Muslim BRN and other representatives as a positive sign. They didn't endorse it, but they said positive things about the fact that it was even floated.

The next day, posters came up, at least in Naratiwat, that this was a non-starter, and violence was promised to anyone who supported such a concept.

That's not why I fear a holiday! I understand exactly what you say.

The Malays and also the Southern Muslims are indeed willing to sit around the table...the snag is that the Thai nationalists just aren't. There's no compromise, No quarter given. Any offers put on the table are dismissed unless they are 'total surrender'.

To go into it in more depth would indeed earn me a ban, so I can't really do that but the snag is that there is only so much patience the one side who are actually willing to try and sort this out will have...

As Elton said, it's a sad, sad situation...

yes it is a very sad situation. You have some politicians saying they want to enter talks based upon a special self administration zone similar to BKK and Pattaya, or semi autonomous and other variations. Then immediately senior members of the military say never going to happen and other politicians singing the same tune. In other words no unified coherent policy. Other side of the coin the younger radicalised armed militants apparently not under the command of the main separatist group/s.

To add to the mix is the nearly daily gunshot killings of Muslims, from recent reports usually village leaders without any claims of responsibility, is this an organised assassination campaign, if so by whom? Very little mention in the media of yet another component is the cross border smuggling & drug trafficking (with associated killings) that would be making a fortune for whom?

It's always muslims isn't it? Yeah, I know there will be some pc of you to quickly come to their defense, but there isn't a single border of muslims and others where there isn't war and terroism. The muslim terrorists in the Philipines succeeded in secceding after decdes of terror. Same thing here. You bet there are Al-Qaeda running around down there training new jihadists.

The problem is Islam, the most murderous ideology in human history. I really urge people to learn the truth about the spread of Islam and in particular how many millons were slaughtered in Africa, Europe and Asia for the muslims and their slave trade.

Thinking that if we just give muslims a bit of land, then they'll be happy and peaceful is naive. History shows something very different.

And another wrinkle is the totally desperate Rohinga boat people from Burma being captured by Thai military and then sold off wholesale to Muslim slave traders in the troubled areas, where they're either ransomed off at huge cost to relatives back home or have to work their ransom off under indenture.

Supposedly now it's come to light TPTB will put a stop to it, but I can't see these refugees getting international-standard treatment anytime soon.

And here I was thinking the Nazi's were the most murderous. Learn something new and bigoted every day I guess.

Christian idelogy hasnt done too bad for itself in the murder & mayhem stakes either in human history....so much for brotherly love and turn the other cheek...one suspects the "crimes" of Christianity have been far worse than any jihadist has managed to achieve

That is the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle (HUP)

The more you learn about something then you realize you really don't really know anything about it.

or

The less you know about something then the more you think you know about it.
