The Perfect Visa For Thailand ?

I'm a USD millionaire. I made my big money as a Navy Seal. Before that I was an Army Green Beret. cheesy.gif

Still, I'm going to Cambodia because I find it too much trouble to put USD 30,000 in a Thai bank, or to show proof of 800,000 baht income, or a combination.

Some of us are just better than others, and shouldn't have to follow the rules. tongue.png

I see that you are one of the group who have "advanced members"

Do you take Viagra for that or just Cialis?

It just amazes me that people on here think that a smart businessman should spend all his hard-earned money on paying for dodgy visa programs,in a very unstable country that was previously a dictatorship under a non-elected Prime Minister (Abhisit) and will probably be one again before long!

Correct me if I'm wrong but i don't see Warren Buffett or Bill Gates rushing to Thailand to become Thai nationals, real money stays the hell away from Mickey Mouse Banana Republics/Kingdoms like here, that's what really is so funny about all the idiots on here thinking they've made it to the promised land, with their overpriced Elite Cards and Work Permits!laugh.png

Ah Bluenose. The envy is palpable...

Please could you qualify what you honestly believe I'm envious of because I really am struggling to understand, what is your situation and how often do you have to jump through hoops like a trained chimpanzee,I'm guessing every 90 days?

For me I just laugh about it and use it as an opportunity to visit and live in other parts of South-East Asia, what 's the problem with that?I really have no beef whatsoever with you but you are a little deluded my friend!Unfortunately Thailand really isn't the land of milk and honey, personally for modernity and amazing shopping I think Manila is a far more Westernised city than Bangkok!

I guess 'westernised' is about the only compliment one can pay to Manila. There isn't much else going for it.

As for jumping through hoops, I don't.

I don't consider myself a peer of Warren Buffett or Bill Gates. If I was, I would employ someone to post sarkey comments on the internet on my behalf.

If Thailand was run as it should be then tourists SHOULD be able to apply for a one year visa with a compulsory monthly check at any immigration office to just ensure that you were still in the country. A minimum cost of 100 to 200 baht should cover the cost of the stamp. However, I would make it much more difficult to enter in the first place with a criminal check required BEFORE entering Thailand. That would elimenate some of the riff-raff.

But, the country is far from perfect and immigration rules are crazy. There is no logical reason for lineups at immigration. Why you should have to cross into Myanmar for a few minutes just to re-enter Thailand for a visa stamp. Why not keep the money in Thailand?

-

The address check-in is in theory for them to keep track of where we are.

The crossing the border does generate revenue for Thailand, plus allows them to inflate the tourism statistics.

Both IMO more to keep us in our place, remind us of the fact that we can't count on being allowed to remain except at the pleasure of TPTB. Plus opportunties for baksheesh.

And why on earth would they charge so little for the privilege? The usage fee works out to at least a hundred baht per day for most here, only goes away with PR correct? I don't see that going down even if they did decide to make it more convenient, in fact logically the more convenient the process the higher the fee will be charged. It has to fund that whole bureaucracy section of the Police, nobody wants that to actually be reduced, plus perhaps the Foreign Service as well, can't expect the Thais to pay for it.

Remember they only suffer our presence to the extent it directly benefits the government and those parts of the population that matter, they count our subsidizing our upcountry families as a negative not a positive.

Its a pain I know, still on the Thai wife visa all these years later, but for a day or twos mucking around, it ain't all that bad, and let's face it if Thailand were to open the flood gates like the UK does, wouldn't be a very good Idea at all. I nearly went for the Thailand PR, but the stories I heard on another site didn't fill me with joy. One bloke being unloaded for 300k and seven years later still on hos retirement visa.

  • Get rid of work permits by making permission to work implicit in a B-visa.
  • Freedom to work where you please (or not work at all) within the time constraints of said B-visa.

-

Why on earth would they ever want to do that, certainly not in the country's interest?

With the exception of teaching English, should be an objective-as-possible NES board to regulate TEFL licensing giving benefit of the doubt total open-door policy to NES newcomers, including entrepreneurial efforts private tutoring in the home etc. Then measuring quality based on actual student improvement results via regular standardized testing, with statistics as to those results at school-level released to the public.

Because over-regulation of the workforce stifles the flexibility / mobility of people with skills. This puts some skilled people off altogether whilst legally hamstringing those with an entrepreneurial bent (and have not yet formed a company).

Not very good for the economy or skills level of the workforce (or the skills level of the population in general, for that matter) and therefore probably not in the country's interests.

But it's a fundamental belief of the Thais that any economic opportunities are "rights" for Thais only, and they only tolerate foreigners when they're contributing in the specific ways they've determined they want for a specific period of time.

What you're proposing would allow foreigners to just come in and compete with the Thais on an even playing field, and of course that wouldn't ever be tolerated, would be seen as opening themselves up to be colonised, which they're so proud of having avoided I doubt they'll start encouraging it now. . .
