21-year jail term for pimp

BANGKOK: The Criminal Court yesterday sentenced a woman to 21 years in prison for kidnapping, prostitution and forgery after luring two young Thai girls to Japan using false passports. The woman Jaratsi Wuthijaroen, 46, a former nurse, is also known as Pajira Ruangsi and Wanna Ruangsi.

On December 14, 2002, the public prosecutor said, Jaratsi lured the two girls, known only as Nit, 16, and Noi, 15, into prostitution at a Thai restaurant called Jom Jaeng in Yokohama.

Nit and Noi were promised tens of thousands of baht a month in salary for working at the restaurant. They arrived in Japan on forged passports supplied by Jaratsi.

A restaurant worker known only as Maem, 50, another Thai, took the girls to some Japanese men in Tokyo and they were forced to provide sexual services for Bt3,000 a time, though they never received any money.

The court was told that the two girls eventually managed to escape and sought help from the Thai embassy in Tokyo.
