I have never been to Chiang Mai. I will be going for 5/6 nights with my wife and child.

What are the attractions in Chiang Mai?

And where is the best place to stay

Quite a lot of info if you ask Khun Google, not sure if I can post some of the link here..........first time to Chiangmai would suggest to stay in night market area, check with hotel or nearby tour company for some half day or full day tour to golden triangle, Doi Supthep, etc.

Depends on budget as to where you stay - The Chedi, Yancome, and Tamarind Village are all nice resort-style hotels right in the centre or close to many attractions.

Google 'Trip Advisor Chiang Mai' for ideas and further info on attractions - Doi Suthep, Mae Rim Tiger Kingdom, Royal Flora, King of Flight day tour read details and make a short-list.

TA can sometimes be manipulated so take note of the number of reviewers and locations.

it's not JUST outside the moat. it's half way between pantip plaza and chedi on the right DUH

I'd like to stay in the hills for the scenery.

My wife would like to see aome temples.

And for my son. A zoo if possible

Temples we got in abundance,

The zoo has a Panda bear exibit as well as an walk through aquarium. Plus other animals.

We have what I believe is called the Royal botanical gardens they are stunning well worth a look see.

I might not have got the name right some one will correct me if I am wrong I hope.

Have no idea where to tell you to stay most of the ones mentioned are expensive. Give a price range and I am sure you will get results. As Rob said check trip adviser.

Where ever you stay they will be able to advise you. I like Wat Chedi Luong Wat Prah sing in the old city.

Stay in All Season Chiangmai (now call ibis style).......near to Zoo for your son, near Doi Suthep for you wife and u can walk up to Doi Suthep with hill scenery

Not forgeting nice cafe MoC MoL, Malin night market and The Habour all within walking distance

Good to know we stayed in the BKK Ibis near the river last year great value

Do a day in Mae Sa, Elephant riding then a raft down the river, don't even think about paying to see drugged tigers; Flight of the Gibbon (and there are others) is terrific fun.

Do the Riverside boat (eat on it then a gentle meander down the river).

If you're adventurous do some Microlighting at Chiang Mai Sky Adventure out towards Doi Saket. You might actually be able to see things through the smoke if it's rained by the time you get there.

There's plenty more but those are things most guests I've entertained have always enjoyed.
