March 24, 201313 yr Hi Everyone, Coming June I am planning to move to Bangkok from Hong Kong for 6 months study. I want to bring my desktop to continue my work here. Do I need to declare it when passing immigration? It is in the big carton box. Do I have to pay any import taxes? After 6 months I plan to bring it back to Hong Kong.
March 24, 201313 yr If you are only here for 6 months. Why not just bring the hard drive and purchase a new tower to put it in here at the many computer shops. Not expensive...
March 24, 201313 yr Should be no problem. If I were you I'd disassemble it and pack it in a suitcase, but that's just me.
March 24, 201313 yr Too much a hastle, bring a notebook/HD and buy a big monitor screen for B10000 here. Edited March 24, 201313 yr by Dancealot
March 24, 201313 yr Author Thank you for all replies. I have a monoblock computer and I have no knowledge to assemble/reassemble it. If I bring it with me and tell customs I study here for 6 months and I will bring it back to Hong Kong, will they ask me to pay any duties?
March 24, 201313 yr Don't bring a desktop. It's far more trouble than it's worth. Either buy a laptop now and use your remaining time to transfer files to the new machine, or buy an external (USB) hard drive, put the files there, then buy a computer in Thailand. You can even find good used computers (Mac & PC) on this site's classifieds or other similar sites.

March 25, 201313 yr I brought my macpro in, but its a few years back. But i just took it through nothing to declare, huge box. I guess if they stop you, just say its not new, and not worth much, and pay what they want. Shouldnt be to much anyway. But i would just try and bring it through.
