Hi all,

I'm a new member here, English and I'm just wondering if anyone has any details on the best place to obtain a single entry Non-B visa?

I will have all the relevant paperwork supplied by the company and hope to apply for the work permit shortly after my return to Bangkok.

Any up-to-date information would be greatly appreciated.

Is this teaching or other type employment Normally application for work permit and receipt will be required for a non immigrant B visa issued in the area of Thailand although teachers do not appear to need for first visa.

just back form a visa trip to obtain a non B for my Cambodian GF. we drove to Penang Malaysia,

stayed at the Minigood hotel right downtown ( 100 myr/night or 1,000 baht)

gave them her passport with all the correct docs the night we checked in, they took it to the embassy the next day and we had it back in hand the day after before noon.

220 MR for the visa and 30 for the service

DON"T go to Cambodia as most travel agents don't want to deal with the Non immigrant visas an service varies from 2-3 days up to 2 weeks.

KL is the best place (out of the neighboring country embassy sites) to get a non-B for work in Thailand. I have sent over 15 people there and never had an issue with them. The staff is very professional.

Line up in the morning, take a queue number, submit docs, pay money, and visa is ready for pickup the following afternoon.

Thanks for your replies all.

@Lopburi - it's not for teaching, it will be for marketing. The company has already started preparing what's needed for the work permit application although I thought I must possess a Non-B in order to apply for the work permit.

You normally need to have made application for a work permit - that is a requirement for issue of the non immigrant B visa - that visa is only required for obtaining the work permit - not for application. Below is the general requirement list of documents:

(1) Foreigners who wish to work in Thailand must provide the following documents:
- Passport or travel document with validity of not less than 6 months.
- Completed visa application form.
- Recent passport-sized photograph (4 x 6 cm) of the applicant taken within the past 6 months.
- Evidence of adequate finance (20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family).
- Letter of approval from the Ministry of Labour. To obtain this letter, the applicant’s prospective employer in Thailand is required to submit Form WP3 at the Office of Foreign Workers Administration, Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour Tel. 02-2452745, or at the Provincial Employment Office in his or her respective province. More information is available at www.doe.go.th/workpermit/index.html
- Copy of Work Permit issued by the Ministry of Labour and alien income tax or Por Ngor Dor 91 (only in the case where applicant has previously worked in Thailand).
- Corporate documents of hiring company in Thailand such as:
1) business registration and business license
2) list of shareholders
3) company profile
4) details of business operation
5) list of foreign workers stating names, nationalities and positions
6) map indicating location of the company
7) balance sheet, statement of Income Tax and Business Tax (Por Ngor Dor 50 and Por Ngor Dor 30 of the latest year)
8) value-added tax registration (Por Por 20)
- Document indicating the number of foreign tourists (for tourism business only), or document indicating export transactions issued by banks (for export business only).
N.B.
- An alien who receives a Non-Immigrant visa can work in Thailand once he or she is being granted a work permit. An alien in violation of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979) concerning taking up employment without work permit or the Royal Decree B.E. 2522 (1979) concerning holding employment in certain restricted occupations and professions shall be prosecuted and imprisoned or fined, or shall face both penalties.
- It is recommended that the applicant should apply for visa at the Thai Embassy/ Consulate in the country where he/she has the residence

@Lopburi - yes they confirmed as you said and will apply beforehand, spot on!

Regarding the best place to go to get a visa, they recommend Laos, how about yourself?

You appear to be in Bangkok if reading right so Vientiane would be an easy trip by train/plane/bus or even van (not recommended). If you fly go to Udon as that is much cheaper than international flight and only an hour from border by van/bus. You could also use Savannakhet but less infrastructure and travel options.

Thanks Lopburi, that sounds like the best plan and yes you're correct i'm in Bangkok, cheers for the quick and swift help.

Planning to do it beginning-Mid of next month, sometime before Songkran so I'll update as soon as I've been with a report.

Hi Stevo,

I just got back (Friday) from Ho Chi Minh City. Got a single-entry non-imm B visa with no issue. Submitted the app on Thurs morning to the consulate and got it back on Friday at 1:30. There was no one at the consolate when I was there on Thursday and only one person on Friday afternoon. I have never had a problem there and always do my paperwork myself so it is only the US$80 visa fee.

I do have a valid WP this time. Last time, I had a copy of my expired WP. I don't think that was really following the regulations though, but they gave me a single entry that time too. You can apply for a WP even on a visa exempt entry and then use the receipt for your non-imm B application.

I picked HCMC because it has been easy with no waiting and the cost is about the same as flying anywhere else. Plus, since you need to spend a couple of days wherever you go, you may as well pick someplace you want to spend time. I almost went to Penang, but couldn't find a cheap enough flight.

Good luck.

@khaopad00 - thanks very much for that info, I've actually quite fancied a trip there, could perhaps kill to birds with 1 stone.

It's definitely good for thought and I'll be sure to update here once I've done it.

Cheers.

I perfure Kota Bharu, a city in Malaysia. Drop it off in the morning and ready the next morning... I have done it many times... Always smooth as silk

Rememeber Khota Bharu is a very traditional highly Islamic place, so the Consulate is closed Friday and Saturday plus Thai Malay Public Holidays.

Hi All,

The time has finally arrived to make my Trip and I've decided to apply for the single entry B visa in Vientiane, Laos. I plan to fly to Udon and the get the Bus to Laos from there, I'm actually planning on staying 2 nights as I don't really want to rush. Will make my way into Laos early Wednesday afternoon, submit on Thursday morning and hopefully collect on Friday afternoon.

My question is, to any who know, what is a good hotel to book that's nearby the embassy in Laos? I'm looking for somewhere quite nice and relaxed, i'm not really into the cheap places and won't be requiring or needing any company, if you get my drift, does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

A lot of information here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/189375-latest-reports-of-getting-a-visa-in-the-region/

under the info for that consulate.

When you get to Udon Thani airport main lobby look for the guys with the minivans (they have a booth near the exit doors.) They are the best way to get to the border (cost around 250 baht and reasonably comfortable.) If you take the bus you will need to get a tuktuk or taxi to the bus terminal and then ride a local bus to the border ( total cost can be more than minivan.) Exit Thailand through immigration and take the bus across the bridge (there is a ticket booth just past immigration. On Laos side, once out of the bus go straight to the widow for Visa On Arrival and fill out the forms and pay the fee ($35.) Once you get your visa on arrival and get through immigration take the local bus to the city. An option is to negotiate with a van driver (there will be many offering you the trip to the city.) Last trip I paid 200 baht for a van with just me and the wife but may be cheaper if you find a full van. The van drivers frequently offer visa services (just be careful if you use them.) Lots of good places to stay, just depends on your budget.

Cheers Asiaexpat - some good info there, been looking online at the hotels, probably go for 1000-2000 a night, something along those lines.

Hi all!

I really appreciate all the info given, very helpful indeed.

As an update I've been to Vientiane, Laos, got the single entry Non B and all is ok.

On the whole very quick and easy.

As I was applying for a Non B single entry and the paperwork was in order, it went well, I did however notice a few people being given single entry tourist visas as opposed to doubles, I think they may have had too many back to back.

Thanks again.
