webfact Posted March 25, 2013 Share Posted March 25, 2013 Bail revocation sought for Thai police officers in missing Saudi caseBy Digital MediaBANGKOK, March 25 – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) today sought a Criminal Court order to revoke bail for five Thai police officers implicated in the murder of a Saudi Arabian businessman in Bangkok in 1990.Pol Lt Gen Somkid Boonthanom and four other police officers were arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of Mohammad al-Ruwaili, a Saudi Arabian businessman, who has been missing since 1990.Mr al-Ruwaili was close to the Saudi royal family and was in Bangkok to investigate the case of jewellery stolen from the Saudi royal palace.DSI Director Tarit Pengdit said he has prepared three witnesses and evidence to prove that Pol Lt Gen Somkid interfered in the police investigation of the case and intimidated Pol Lt Suvitchai Kaeopaluek, a witness for the plaintiff.Pol Lt Suvitchai has been harassed by the suspect and could not lead a normal life, Mr Tarit said. When you have the top policeman in Thailand having people killed, you know there are some serious underlying social problems. I have said before and will say again, Thailand REALLY needs to solve this issue before a movie is made about it, or the Saudis get a wild hair and convince other middle east countries to stop shipping oil to Thailand.... There is a GREAT deal of money (for the LOS) riding on this unsolved mystery and waaay too many folk looking to cash in when a "solution" is found to remedy this "unfortunate" circumstance.
