BANGKOK, March 25 – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) today sought a Criminal Court order to revoke bail for five Thai police officers implicated in the murder of a Saudi Arabian businessman in Bangkok in 1990.

Pol Lt Gen Somkid Boonthanom and four other police officers were arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of Mohammad al-Ruwaili, a Saudi Arabian businessman, who has been missing since 1990.

Mr al-Ruwaili was close to the Saudi royal family and was in Bangkok to investigate the case of jewellery stolen from the Saudi royal palace.

DSI Director Tarit Pengdit said he has prepared three witnesses and evidence to prove that Pol Lt Gen Somkid interfered in the police investigation of the case and intimidated Pol Lt Suvitchai Kaeopaluek, a witness for the plaintiff.

Pol Lt Suvitchai has been harassed by the suspect and could not lead a normal life, Mr Tarit said. The DSI has been in charge of investigating the case since 2004. (MCOT online news)

Yingluck must be off to Saudi soon then.

Stranger than fiction!

If DSI has been investigating the crime since 2004, does that indicate that DSI could be the organization holding up the investigation? Where are the 5 police officers that are out on bail, Cambodia, Laos, or Dubai? cowboy.gif

Every time I read about this case, I am amazed - even for Thailand. The amount of collusion and corruption within Thailand. The only silver lining is the fact that Saudi Arabia will not import Thai labor - and that is actually lucky considering the conditions within Saudi Arabia for domestic workers.

The blue diamond affair in many ways is a perfect look at Thailand, and what is wrong. When you have the top policeman in Thailand having people killed, you know there are some serious underlying social problems.

I have said before and will say again, Thailand REALLY needs to solve this issue before a movie is made about it, or the Saudis get a wild hair and convince other middle east countries to stop shipping oil to Thailand....

Court postpones bail hearing for suspects in Saudi case
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court Monday postponed to next week a hearing on the Department of Special Investigation's request for bail revocation against two suspects in the case of abduction and murder of a Saudi businessman.

Deputy Criminal Court chief justice Jumpol Chuwong, who chaired Monday's hearing, ordered DSI chief Tarit Pengdit to submit a copy of his evidence to back up his request to the court before the hearing can continue on Monday.

Tarit asked the Criminal Court to revoke bail of Pol Lt-General Somkid Bunthanom and Pol Lt Col Suradej Udomdee. The two were accused of collaborating to abduct and murder Mohammad al-Ruwaili, a Saudi businessman close to the Saudi royal family.

Tarit testified to the court that Somkid, former head of police inspector-generals, and Soradej collaborated to abuse their influence to mess up evidence in the case and to intimidate a key witness, Pol Lt General Suwichai Kaewpaluk.

If I was one of the 5 I would be very hard to find.

And....what about Rakeesh Saxena ?

So Tarit made an application without providing any evidence? <deleted>??? blink.png And the court postponed the hearing until he can provide it... only in Thailand. Keystone antics.

Amazing the Blue Diamond case still haunt's Thailand.....Saudi's are still forbidden to travel to Thailand.....After working there for one year it's probably not a bad thing.

Even "Toontown" had an unsolved murder ... for a while.

There is a GREAT deal of money (for the LOS) riding on this unsolved mystery

and waaay too many folk looking to cash in when a "solution" is found to

remedy this "unfortunate" circumstance. Twenty years and counting.

I'm expecting the solution being as equally bizarre as the original crimes.

I'm told patience is a virtue blink.png
