Applying For Certificate Of Residence Based On Tourist Visa ?

Featured Replies

I plan to purchase a vehicle, and would certainly require a Certificate of Residence (CR), as advised by other members in another thread.

Two questions:

(1) Can I apply for a CR based on a Tourist Visa ?

(2) I live in a condo I bought which is located near Param 9. Do I have to go all the way to the Immigration at Chaeng Wattana to apply for the CR ?

Thank you.

I think immigration wants you to be doing 90 day reporting before they'll give you a letter.

If that is the case, try your embassy.

Terry

For immediate residence verification to register a motorcycle go to your embassy and get it. But you could also apply for a Yellow Tabien Baan since you own your condo. Take the blue Tabien Baan to your Khet along with copies of your passport (some Khet will not issue one if you only have a Tourist Visa.)

Reports are that CW will not issue a certificate of residence unless you are on extensions of stay.

Your only choice is to get one from your embassy and have it translated to Thai.

What do you mean by "on extensions of stay" ?

My 60 days will be due soon, and I will be visiting CW to pay 1900 baht for a 30-day extension. Does that qualify me for a CR ?

Hm...will try my luck.

Making 90 day address reports is the standard for issuing at Chiang Watanna I believe. So would only be available on a stay longer than 90 days.

Thank you. I will try my luck with Khet Huaykwang next week.

Not sure if they would require a Chanote or tenancy agreement.

I can only speak for Pattaya but I have applied for and received residence certificates at the immigration office in Jomtien using only my rental agreement, a couple passport photographs and copies of my passport and of my Visa Waiver immigration form aka 30 day entry. These certificates are only good for 30 days and are required for purchasing or selling motor vehicles.

Kurt
