Featured Replies

In my continuing research into life in BKK, just wonderin' how people generally spend weekends in the city . . .if you stay in the city . . .and if you travel out . . .where's the best places to go. Just tryin to get a flava of the kind thang that goes down at the end of the week. :o Kick-back /chill out time :D

Hi impy

Come the weekend am quite tired and usually just go out for dinner (and drinks :D) with friends, watch a movie or curl up with a good book :o . However when I want to let my hair down and shake my tush, I go out in silom usually soi 4 (which isn't that often). I don't live too far from central bangkok so just get cabs everywhere :D .

There's plenty to do, just depends what scene you're after. :D

I'm almost never in Bangkok so couldn't give you much nightlife advice 'cause by the time I have finished with the weekend market and pratunam am far too tired to go dancing! :o

Silom Soi 4 is good for dancing.

Two blocks north of Khao San Rd on Sam Sen Rd (Chakrapongse Rd. changes name in to Sam Sen after the traffic lights), just after the bridge over the khlong (canal) on the left hand side, is a funky bar playing good live music, bluesy, no cheap covers.

Saxophone Bar near Victory Monument is a bit touristy and quite expensive, but a nice venue with very talented musicians all the same. Look out for the thai band T-bone (ska and reggae music) for an energy-filled experience.

There are a few places for latin dancing on Sukhumwit, can't remember their names now though as I haven't been there for over a year.

There used to be crazy discos on the Thonburi side (Phran Nok Rd) with virtually no farang at all, but these were all closed down with the zoning laws three years ago, and I don't think they've reopened.

Near Chatuchak weekend market are a few cosy bars attracting the Sinlapakorn art student/musician crowd, if you're into that scene. Make friends with the "flower" boys and girls selling their own designer stuff and art at Chatuchak daytime, and you will probably be invited to go along.

Maybe that'll give you something to start from.

I am afraid there won't be much of a 'NIGHTlife' after March 1, when all the entertainment venues will have be closed by midnight (the only exceptions will be New Petburi Rd, Ratchadapisek Rd and Patpong but even at those places the curfew time will be 2 am) !

So, unless one can and do like to 'start the night-out early', I am afraid there will be a limited number of hours to enjoy an evening out.

Sad :o

Regards,

Jem

Go to Radio City in Patpong.....good bands, fun crowd, reasonably priced drinks and it will still be able to operate until 2 am. That is one of the very few 'non-a-go-go /girlie' venues in Patpong.

Make sure you get there early though (around 10 would be good) as the place gets packed by 11 most nights.

Regards,

Jem
