April 5, 201313 yr Want to skype via aircard from the middle of Isaan, between Buriram and Roi Et. Possible with which aircard? What tariff, will be used only 1 month?
April 5, 201313 yr I'm using Aircard (or 3G data) for skype calls on my home network as well as from the phone application. Works well most of the time. Network usage for audio: 3MB / minute. 1GB would give 5 hours of talk time. https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA10853/how-much-data-will-skype-use-on-my-mobile-phone Here are examples of some typical Skype data usage: Skype-to-Skype calls: 50kbps or around 3MB for one minute of calling Calls to mobile numbers or landlines: 6-20 kbps or around 1MB for one minute of calling Video calls between two mobile phone devices: 500kbps Video calls between a mobile phone and a computer: 600kbps Some more details https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1417/how-much-bandwidth-does-skype-need Edited April 5, 201313 yr by Guest
April 5, 201313 yr Author that is much more than I had hoped for, I did´nt think that skype quality was good enough, (although calling landlines abroad is mostly better than by normal phone lines, or even if I call form Germany via PC-Skype a Thai mobile it is crystal clear) Your answer was very comprehensive. You may be able to guide me further= My wife will have a laptop with her. Reason= she wants to use the time in the village to .e.g watch Youtube videos on how to improve you language. 1. view video via aircard, what data plan would you recommend? 2. download a bunch of videos now free of charge. Is there a plug in required for the Youtube down load?
April 5, 201313 yr The call quality of course depends of the reception between the air card and the tower (and which operator has 3G at the location). Local operators would be the best place to ask, or others who use similar setup. If there is all possibilities, TOT (truly) unlimited 2Mbit package might be the best to take. If I understood correctly, that's the only one which does not have high speed cap after 1-10GB of usage (that will be used quite fast when watching youtube videos). Also youtube has an option to 'never play high quality videos' which can reduce the network traffic. There is few topics ongoing here, which are specific to selecting good mobile operator for your needs. Check for example this and search more. There will be members with better knowledge of the current situation. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/629845-unlimited-3g/
