Tourism and Sports Min working to meet revenue target of THB 2 trillion

BANGKOK, 11 April 2013 (NNT) - The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is preparing to hold a workshop aimed at helping the Thai tourism sector generate revenue of two trillion baht by 2015 in accordance with the government’s policy.

Tourism and Sports Minister Somsak Phureesrisak said the workshop, to be chaired by Permanent-Secretary for Tourism and Sports Suwat Sitthilor, would be attended by the ministry’s staff as well as those from relevant agencies.

The workshop will study problems in the tourism sector and seek solutions based on opinions and requests of tourism operators, with an ultimate goal of boosting tourism income for the country to two trillion baht.

According to the minister, Thai tourism operators want the ministry to make bilingual signs, help them with financial problems and find more tour buses in order to keep up with the soaring number of tourists in Thailand.

All units under the ministry would also look into tourism laws and regulations to see whether they needed to be updated, Mr Somsak said.

Conclusions from the workshop are expected to be submitted to the Cabinet on 30 April before being put into action.

.

It's easy.

For increased tourism revenue, just follow the previous example, except sell two million Thai Elite Cards.

Thailand Elite Card, the brainchild of former premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is TPC's sole owner

the goal was to attract a Million subscribers in five years for revenue of 1 Trillion baht.

Thai tourism operators want the ministry to make bilingual signs...

A good start - I presume Thai and English like some street signs. But why not Chinese, Russian, and more?

Having just spent one or two weeks in Chiang Mai, in Pai and in Chiang Rai I have witnessed many Chinese, Russian and other nationalities making their tour/travel arrangements in English rather than in their own languages confirming, if on needed to, the universality of English so more Thai/English signs would indeed help everyone.
