I'm not a pro surfer, just wanna have fun with my kid on weekend. 1-2 meters of wave is Ok, as long as it's a safe smooth sandy beach. And where to get the board (cheap is Ok)?

If you are wanting 1-2m surfer size waves, that means about 6-8 foot high faces; that is starting to get rather big; or if you mean by person who doesn't surf much, then you mean something like 2-6 foot faces...you might be able to find some waves of the second sort around Thailand.

For body boarding? then you'll proably want to go to Phuket; some waves there in the rainy season.

Ocassionally you can get some minor chop for little kiddies at Jomtien or Bangsaen, around 1-2 feet slop, which would be ok for a child to try surfing; just white water slop really. Hua Hin the same, although not sure what season they get little waves.

Only Phuket is atually decent.

Try windsurfing; not difficult, and similar sensation; good time around now until about Oct for windsurfing in Jomtien - the new boards are 1m wide, and super easy to stand on. You'll have more fun I think.

Thanks for the info. Need to get vacation from office first to go to Phuket as weekend only is too short. Meanwhile, I'll look into Jomtien.

BTW, do you know exactly the location in Pattaya or Jomtien where I can find public shower/bathroom facilities for washing after swimming? I mean not in the hotel. I drove through Pattaya's beach road but I didn't notice one.

OK, skip pattaya, that beach is a dump, and actually the whole town is a dump.

Go to Jomtien, the beach is quite a bit nicer. I can think of a few places along the road; the one I DO know is the windsurfing school called Amara sailing centre which is located at the base of the Pattaya Park complex (the one with the wopping great sky tower thing and the amusement park).

You go there, and ask can I use the showers, and pay I think it is 10 baht for that.

Eazzzy eazzy eaaaaaaaaazzy.

I suggest u skip Pattaya and Jomtien altogether and head for Rayong or Samet

When the swell picks up during the rainy season you can just about body board there. Its choppy though and the ride lasts about 3 seconds.

I believe u can pick up cheap body boards at Supersports branches in Central.

Phuket has the best surf spots in Thailand but thats not saying much. Surf season starts in May.

Rayong surf spots:

Hin Suay Nam Sai - Rayong

Mae Ram Phung

Koh Samet
