for the record:

-i don't have it, my wife has it,

-sometimes i borrow it,

-she had a black CLS before (a colour i liked),

-all my cars of the last 35 years were black, and so is my present one,

-her new CLS is white (a colour i don't like),

-my wife does not play oktoberfest music in her car,

-i don't play oktoberfest music but rock of the 60/70s in her and in my cars.

The CLS looks to have a pretty big brake caliper on the front, is there enough room to down grade to an 18" rim ?

made up my mind, changing wheels = out of question. period!

p.s. and there is no need for you two to start a fight with each other because of a red license plate or whatever. play nicely boys... or else! laugh.png

You are quite correct about 75 or 65 profile providing more comfort Naam.

Trouble is you can't get those profiles for your 19' alloys and even

if you could, the diameter would be so much greater, they wouldn't fit

under the wheel arches without obstruction.

For a real comfort improvement you will need to change to 17" Alloys

with 65 profile, off an E Class. It won't look very nice though. Using

these will not be detrimental to the car's safety at all, after all the

CLS is an E Class under the fancy styling.

17" would really look yuckish i presume. what are my options Woodsie?

get rid of the wife and keep the car as it is?

Yep, fire the Mrs ASAP.

Flame and reply removed. How can a topic on tires get so volatile? Ok, tire pressure in Thailand I can understand being a hot subject. biggrin.png

Getting back to my point, Benz wont have any aftermarket junk, only AMG on its products and Honor the Warranty.Perhaps Ford does..coffee1.gif

Stop talking utter crap, aftermarket wheels will not void the merc warranty unless they were the cause for the warranty claim. as for AMG parts only............. What about Brabus.

Nice dig at me putting wheels on my Ranger too by the way.

Wheel Bearings per chance, any get out they can find they will.I was told by Benz only AMG. Brabus . Ford Cosworth AVO were a ones who hated a Turbo Mod as well. I know, i lost a claim. O.K. 25 years backcoffee1.gif

I remember when tyres had no profile, just the size. Thinking of my 1964 MGB. Probably cross ply's..Hmmm, think that was the case. smile.png

using "profile" for the ratio tire width/height must be specifically British. never heard that before except when it concerned the profile

stock-photos-tire-profile-alto-article-p

Nope, not this time, profile is commonly used in tire sizing here too..

BTW my post had nothing to with the removed flames previously, it was confirming that Tyre's Plus was the tire store I had recommended earlier in Phuket off the Bypass Rd. I believe it is the same store but not certain, the store I was speaking of has been there only a few years.

You won't notice any difference Naam.

The only way is to change wheels back to 18" with High Profile tyres. Not worth doing.

BTW, when you wear yours out or get a terminal puncture/damage, I have 2 front and 1 rear which have only done 40 miles.

Qatar Air damaged one of mine when flying a car in for me and I had to buy a complete set as I couldn't match the exact model number here last year.

They are P-Zero

i might be a tire dummy Woodsie but i know for sure that a 75 or 65 on a regular car adds more riding comfort than a low 35 or 30 ratio. i am also aware that the wheel diameter might have to be changed. my question was more aimed how the handling of the car would change and if it changes whether it will it be a potential hazard.

what i need are rational and quantifiable arguments. something like "at high speeds the car might overturn and your husband is finally free to get a mia noi or perhaps two of them" will not work with the Mrs. simple reason: she uses a driver who is stricly following her order "max 120km/h or else!"

women! crazy.gif

Naam your wife is driving a car with over 500hp and your worrying about the performance making such a radical change in handling? I'd say that's the least of your worries, it will change but not radically and IMO a driver driving a car of that level of performance probably shouldn't be driving it at all if they are unable to make the necessary adjustments in their driving to accommodate changing road conditions and performance changes under any circumstances.. Maybe your answer is to seek answers and weigh the decision for her to drive a car maybe considerably over her head if you really have concerns..

Might give that some serious thought whistling.gif .. Plenty more updated, higher performance models with more options coming available there daily, more so than actual car choicescheesy.gif ..

I have read some of your numerous posts Naam and have come to the conclusion you will do the wise thing.

Sounds to me like the status quo is a very good idea.

I think you will keep the wife (a good idea), keep the 19" alloys (a good idea) and live happily with a sore bum, ever after! biggrin.png

relax Warp, she is not driving this car, her driver is. not withstanding the fact that in Germany she used to drive when she felt like one of my cars which was much more powerful than the CLS and her car, which she drove in the U.S., was not exactly a lame duck.

to set the record straight... my wife will drive a car in Thailand only over my dead body. that's the reason why she has a driver although she misses driving badly. and whenever we are, or she is in a civilised country where not a zillion brain-amputated drive on the wrong side of the road she drives.

actually i'm not surprised Warp. people who use archaic measures such as pounds per square inch, bushels, hogsheads, yards, short tons, footlongs and name a piece of wood that measures 1½ by 3½ inches a "2 inches by 4 inches" will also use an unscientific name for the ratio tire width:tire height.

Yes, archaic measures that rule the world... Back at ya! av-11672.gif FYI though it is actually referred to more professionally as "aspect ratio" but often termed as "profile" in casual terms..
