April 19, 201313 yr Our daughter is coming over for a holiday and has booked and paid for her tickets. Unfortunately her return date means she will be here 33 days. Is it possible to extend her 30 day visa.. Thank you in advance for any info.
April 19, 201313 yr Without a visa she will get a 30 day visa exempt stamp at arrival that can be extended by 7 days at immigrations for 1900 baht. The problem is that the airline has the right to refuse her to board if she does not have a visa or a ticket out of Thailand within 30 days. I would recommend her to get a 60 day tourist visa before travel to avoid any hassle.
April 19, 201313 yr As an alternative to extending the 30 Days, she can just overstay and pay the THB 500 per day fine when departing, without the inconvenience of a visit to immigration. Technically a violation but done all the time. The really sticky part is, as mentioned above, the risk of not even getting on the plane. The airlines (and in turn their staff) can be penalized for allowing people without the correct flight schedule to get to Thailand and therefore often play it strictly "by the book". So, a proper 60 Day tourist visa is highly advisable. Have a good visit!
April 19, 201313 yr It is more than a technical violation - below is the law - although normally all is well with payment of fine bad things could happen. Section 81 : Any alien who stay in the Kingdom without permission or with permission expired or revoked shall be punished with imprisonment not exceeding two years or a fine not exceeding 20,000 Baht or both.
