Trouble With My Dual Entrytourist Visa

Featured Replies

Hello,

I was hoping someone could help to give me a little piece of mind about my dual entry Tourist Visa.

On April 19th I was going to activate the second entry for my T visa at the Poipet border when the immigration officer told me my Visa had expired. The "enter before" date on the visa was April 17 but I had an extension on March 19th for 30 days putting my stay in Thailand valid until April 20th.

The officer told me that even though I had the extension taking me to the 20th of April, the original expiry date was April 17th so my Visa had expired. The extension did not change the date of the Tourist Visa. Then he stamped my passport for fifteen days and let me go through.

Is anyone familiar with this situation? Should I go to Thai Immigration to dispute it? Any suggestions would help.

Thank you very much

The immigration officer was right. You should make both entries before the "enter before date" or you lose any entry that you didn't make. Many people don't know this and are taken by surprise, but "enter before" applies to all entries not just the first.

Any entry by land will give you 15 days, any entry air will give you 30 days. It is posible to get a new tourist visa in Laos. (Cambodia takes longer to issue, but also possible).

Okay, I appreciate your reply. I was hoping it was a mistake but it does make sense. Trial and error I suppose.

Thanks

Once you apply and receive an extension of stay you have cancelled your visa entries and must get a re-entry permit to keep your extension alive.

most double entry visa are valid for 90 days, ( have to be utilized by) so u should have left 2 days before the date given.

alive.

What??

an extension on the first visa does NOT make the second visa invalid and a re-entry permit would not come into play unless u wanted to leave and come back on the same visa

A re-entry permit is required to keep a permitted to stay or extension of stay alive but does not cancel any valid visa.

Confusion can occur because people incorrectly refer to extensions of stay as visa extensions.

Or calling extensions visas and stating they have a visa of some type when they actually have an extension.
