Ride To Surat Thani Then Bike On Train To Udon Thani Anyone Done This?

Featured Replies

I live in Phuket.

I want to take my motorbike up to Udon Thani to do some touring but I don't want to do the hard yards.

I have already ridden the "super highway" from Phang Nga across to Surat and it is an easy leg.

So I have a travel plan as follows:

1. Ride from Phuket to Surat train station

2. Put both myself and my bike on the train north to Udon Thani

3. Get off at Udon and continue my tour

My bike is a supermotard.

Any information from anyone that has done this trip would be greatly appreciated.

Info regarding the following would be great:

1. Train departure times each day

2. Cost for ticket (sleeper) and for loading the bike

3. Will I be required to change trains?

4. Any logistical concerns (such as having to drain gas tank?)

Thanks in advance for any tips...

Only have a little info for you.you will have to change trains all trains stop bangkok, the sleepers are normally fully booked you will need to book from phuket somehow...have a look at seat61 website has alot if info about train travel including timetable.

I've been warned that there may be limited ways to secure your bike on the train so bring lorry straps or similar to tie it down. A secure anti-theft lock might be an idea too.

I have been to Bangkok from Surat Thani by bike and a few other stations too.

Make sure you get to the station at least 30 minutes before the train arrives, as you have to book your bike in via the station manager office, after you have bought your own ticket. They require the bikes green book and your passport. They also look at your train ticket to copy details from.

You can book yourself on to a train in advance, but you can not book your bike in advance.
