we have been thinking of having the wooden windows and doors taken out and replacement[power coated allum.] put in.last yr.we were going to do it but bought a car instead.the wf.is on the change and wants to spend some money[thats unusual] normally she gets a headache, so has anybody got any advice.we had windsor guttering fitted 3yrs ago was pleased with the quality but what worries me is,as the wooden ones around 30 win./doors have to be ripped out what kind of mess are we going to have knowing how much care is taken by thai workers and also the filling in around the gaps of the new ones, they all seem to carry a gun and a tube of filler [any type will do] say them.its a large house and they are going to have to use scaffolding, have been having a look on the forums but there is nothing posted for a long while so any advice and recomendations would be gratefuly received. meatboy.

It might help to post a photo of a typical window and door you intend to replace.

Otherwise, for the windows: chances are you will need custom build and for that I would ask around your area for recommendations and check out the fit/function if you can. Maybe track down a good contractor that way.

For the doors, you might check out Global for options.

My family's business bought into the PVC windows craze when it first surfaced in TH about 8 or 9 years ago, and built several hundred houses using them. But now they're back to using only Aluminum on all new projects.

Problems varied from designs that left moisture into the internal metal structures, corroding them and leaving rust stains leaking out, to the PVC itself discoloring - which results in two-tone frames for windows partially shaded during the day...

Anyways, as a rough guide, a typical 1200x1100mm aluminum window with 6mm AGC float glass and bug screens will cost ~2500 to supply & fit (including removal of the old window). 1800x1100 about 4000 Baht, and a 2000x2100 sliding door around 6000 Baht.

That is very interesting.

The company that is installing my PVC windows, claims that

the new PVC will not discolor, and they are giving a 10 year

warranty. I sure hope I will not run in to the rust stain issues !

I threw out my aluminum windows because of several issues:

1) Double Pane glass isolates better against heat AND noise

2) The aluminum windows I had would let all kinds of insects

crawl in, even when they where closed

3) When it would rain very hard we would get lots of water

pushes through the windows.

4) The locks where such a bad quality that I have to routinely

replace them every 6 months.

Perhaps I just had really bad quality windows, but some things

to look out for !

I understand that there are some really high end aluminum windows

available as well. I believe mad in Switzerland. But price wise they

are just as or more expensive than the PVC windows.

FYI: Good to high quality Al windows are certainly available as custom and factory build in Thailand. I have some good custom Al ones upstairs and good factory - forget the brand - PVC (3 years so far no probs) down. No matter what you get it really does come down to the quality of the materials and construction. (and hopefully a non-idiot to install).

thanks guys i will try and find someone who has had theirs replaced.i have seen a few but they are on new build didnt ask who put them in but looking at the finnish i would think tom, dick or harry.i had a look on the web sites and saw a few that looked ok.own vehicles teams as well.what we have is both sides of the house double patio doors aprox 210 x 200,front poach double doors 160 x 200,upstairs double balcony doors 210 x 200,apart from doors 80 x 200,windows are 180 x120,220 x 160,80 x 120,then smaller ones each sides of the double doors so there is quite a lot of different sizes, sorry i cant post any photo's cant get a grip on it,i will try and get a freind to do it,the wooden ones are not to bad but i cant see them lasting,we repainted them all last yr,looks like they will have to be done every 2yrs,we did have a few leaks when storms started but a tube of silicon soon fixed it.i will see if windsor have a new range i am not looking for cheap fixes but there again like us all not to be ripped off.fed up with workmen who does a decent job and next time they double the price that dont work with me and definately not the mrs.got a few monthe to do some searching nakon ratchasima area, yet there are co that will travel but there again you will get some who sub contract the job, electricians come to mind expecially when something goes wrong.

Yep, definitely sounds like it wasn't just the locks that were bad quality...

the time has come for us to replace all our windows and doors plus the security gaurds and the mosquito netts.we went to see 3houses that had had new windows fitted to the old frames that had been left in.1 of the jobs was done over 6yrs.ago and looked very good[alluminuim] and the team also done the gaurds ect.so we got the contact no.phoned them up to make an appointment failed to show after waiting 2hrs.exscuse was they have been held up.will come on sunday.so managed to find another so called fitter sorry only put in.now we find out the team we want are no longer together but the one we contacted will bring someone else around.

this is a big job in all around 24windows/doors so if anyone has had this type of work done and can recomend them please let me know.we dont want the wooden frames taken out as there would be too much mess and more than likely the plaster/cement would be ripped out as well.
