May 6, 201313 yr Our moo ban has lost power for 1 to 2 hours 3 times in past 3 days. The weekend before we had 2 outages of about 1 hour. We are in the Paded area, east of Big C. A couple times we had a little rain but no deluge and no strong winds. Anyone else having problems or noticed a increase in power outages?
May 6, 201313 yr Yes same outages at Banwangtan,Hang Dong. Having been here for 5 years I can't ever recall so many,in such a short time.Of course very hard for us to know where the problem lies but they sure take a long time to get it back on.We have had some strong week gusts and that in the past has been a major problem.Of course planting big trees under power lines doesn't help.
May 6, 201313 yr Up here on our Moo Bahn on Mae Jo road,if it just looks like rain the power goes off ,seriously ,the big rain the other day there was 3 explosions up at Raumchoke market when the transformers blew up,electric was off for a few hours. What was more annoying the Moo Bahn at the rear of us still had power, and the lights were still on in the market and Meechoke Plaza, This happens every year, not surprising when you see the tangles of wire everywhere,it would not surprise me if more people do not die of electrocution ,than die on the roads, both dangerous ,neither taken as serious as they should be. regards Worgeordie
May 6, 201313 yr Same here about 1 km south of BigC Hang Dong Road. Twice in 3 days extended power outage of 2-3 hour duration. Was at BigC this afternoon and yep, full power outage at BigC and surrounding area including the 4 way stop lights and looked like it was going to be a while. Surprised when we got back to the moo bahn the power was ok there.
May 6, 201313 yr Where I live in Bo Sang transformers blow frequently. However I must say that the electric company in our area is very quick to rectify the problems and at most we are without electricity for about 2 hours. Now I don't know where the transformers are made but I have a feeling that they are made in the same country that makes every other crap product in this world.

Now I don't know where the transformers are made but I have a feeling that they are made in the same country that makes every other crap product in this world. In Tanzania (and many other African countries), it's common practice to steal the oil in the transformer. It's then used by street vendors as cooking oil. I kid you not... (Transformers with the oil removed are pretty much guaranteed to blow up) edit: For the OP - it's very common for lightning storms to trip the switchgear at main and substations. Expect a lot more trips in the rainy season, it doesn't necessarily have to be a lightning storm in your immediate area ... Edited May 7, 201313 yr by bobl
May 7, 201313 yr As much as I love the rain I'm crossing my fingers right now that we don't have another outage today where I am.
May 7, 201313 yr As much as I love the rain I'm crossing my fingers right now that we don't have another outage today where I am. A modest UPS will get you through most of the short outages, and offer a modicum of protection for your equipment at the same time...

Just to give you confidence I was speaking with the ladies at the BWT office, one of whom had called the hotline to enquire why so many outages in such a short time and the answer was a definite "We don't know"! As Tywais said,it has been all the way from the Big C intersection running south each time. That should narrow it down for the technicians-maybe!
