iainiain101 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 What traffic / other disruption can we expect next week? We have been notified that Varee school is closing for a week due to the conference. Iain
naboo Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 All schools are to be closed from Tuesday 14th to Monday 20th to ease morning traffic congestion. I imagine little else will change.
Popular Post realthaideal Posted May 6, 2013 Popular Post Posted May 6, 2013 All schools are to be closed from Tuesday 14th to Monday 20th to ease morning traffic congestion. I imagine little else will change. I know some other teachers affected by this. Interesting concept - close schools so that traffic can flow for conference attendees. One teacher I know now has added school days to her holidays in order to make up for these extra off days. Of course she still has to attend and punch in, but then just sit around. I don't think many teachers are thrilled with seat warming and missing more of their vacation time. The bigger issue is (as if there is any forethought to things 'round here): So we're supposed to have this grand convention ctr that will attract visitors and conferences from around the globe all the time - a veritable "conference hub," yeah ? So... shall we just close all the schools for a week every time we host a large conference ? Because that definitely makes sense..... To what degree is it really to ease congestion, or to actually save face that we have a spacious city, and yet our traffic is quickly headed on its way to BKK-style gridlock ? 5
MESmith Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 ":All schools are to be closed from Tuesday 14th to Monday 20th to ease morning traffic congestion" Is this some kind of freaking joke? If it's true, then all you Thailand defenders "wake up & smell the coffee". You are living in the third world 2
MESmith Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Better to close the shopping malls - look at the congestion they cause.
Popular Post WinnieTheKhwai Posted May 7, 2013 Popular Post Posted May 7, 2013 Wish it was an education conference. Most people in Thailand don't really do irony, making it even better. 3
elektrified Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 When I was at a free concert a month or so ago, a Thai government official there announced what he referred to as inside information that President Obama will be attending the conference. I have no idea if this is true or not. I can't imagine why someone from the Thai government would say something like this if not true. If it is true, then can you imagine the security, traffic congestion, and road blocks?

CobraSnakeNecktie Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 here is the conference info http://info.apwatersummit2.org/leaders-forum-20th-may-2013/ Will be interesting to see what happens around the Convention Center in terms of traffic.
WinnieTheKhwai Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 So.. if they're shutting down schools for a water conference, I'm now dreading when do they actually have that Education conference, and shut down the water. 2

Most of the reasons why I'm in Thailand are directly or indirectly related to it being third world (for lack of a better term). 2

Does this include International schools, or is it just Thai schools? International Schools are probably in exam time, so probably open. I should change my wording, schools have been told to close. That doesn't mean they are all (fully) closing.
junglechef Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 The schools were closed for Teacher's Day, need I say more?

Thakkar Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Wish it was an education conference. Most people in Thailand don't really do irony, making it even better. If only, but it isn't an education conference. Imagined irony doesn't quite hit the spot. T
