Ed Visa Question

Featured Replies

Hello,

My wife and I are planning to get an ED visa for our return to Thailand in October.

We will get an Multiple entry non immigrant ED visa from our home country embassy and then get extension here in Thailand.

My concern is about when we will want to leave Thailand for short break holiday, After the visa extension do we have to go every time at the immigration office to ask for re-entry permit. ? even if I got Multiple entry non immigrant ED visa ?

Thanks for your help!

First get only a single entry ED visa if you will be extending in Thailand as any exit without a re-entry permit would end any extension of stay. If you are sure you can extend you only need a single entry visa.

If you in fact have a multiple entry ED visa then you will be given a 90 day stay upon entry. Each 90 days you will need to make a visa run to get an additional 90 days. No re entry permit will be required in this case. However, if you opt to get an extension of your stay and forgo visa runs, you will need to get a re entry permit before you leave Thailand in order to maintain your permitted to stay date.

I do not know where you are located but the general rule is that Thai Consulates will not issue Multiple Entry Ed Visa. There may be the occasional Honorary Consul that will but is really against the rules.

Single Entry is best with Re Entry Permit if you wish to take a break out of Thailand.
