Does anyone know what the going rates are, or if not, where to find out what the proper rates are for starring in commercial shoots for children.

Particulalry interested to know what the remuneration should be for a TV ad and magazine campaign from a large company where the child is the main character and focus, but has an accompanying model as the mother.

Also same as above but for TV only and for international airing only in China.

Hi Nawtilus,

You posted a thread a year ago about children agencies... Did you get any answer since? If I may ask, how do you go about finding agencies?

My son is 17-months and he's done some modelling in China and I thought he could continue in Bangkok but so far none of the agencies I contacted even acknowledged my emails. Could it be that the need for a mixed-boy not as strong as in China?

Cheers!!

member steveromangino is the local ex.model here. Still keeps in touch with the business.

Check out his old posts on the matter where you'll get a feel for the rates.

There are very many mixed blood babies here with parents offering their kids up for commercials... and most of them, at the very least, visit the offices of the modeling agencies (at random without an appointment even, at risk of being rejected or not even entertained) which at least creates a personal touch which is very important here... and yet not all of them are called back.

In essence, those who contact via email should not really expect to be called back, unless the applicant is a super really amazing looker beyond belief.

I won't recommend on this forum any of the model agencies because with the agencies which often accept kid talents (normally the smaller agencies or freelance agents), things sometimes 'get messy' between them and their talents regarding money, trust, etc. and I don't wana be referrer of such, just in case. I also hardly deal with them because my projects rarely use kids.

And nope, I unfortunately do not know of any 'directory' of agencies or if it even exists; unlike in other countries where the professional agencies have umbrella associations/organizations. One of the agencies for older imported (Russian/brazilian) models (ENL, Elite or was it Aratiste) tried to make such association with the bigger agencies with older imported fashion models, but I'm not sure it was a success (I know some owners of the well known agencies who didn't want to join); and it did not pertain to the kid agencies, at least I don't think so. But then again, the production houses would surely have their own internal list of agencies to go to for these kid agencies. Try the big production houses like Phenomena (maybe you can google it), but I'm not quite sure how helpful they'd be to talents going directly there instead of through an already recognized agent of theirs.

Oh, and as far as talent fees are concerned it's usually very low, between 10 to 20k baht GROSS (agents take 30% commission and 5% tax... and they often don't give the talents the withholding tax certificate as proof that the tax was actually paid). If you're lucky and get a big multinational product shown in more than just Thailand (like say, Pampers), then it can go up to about 70,000-100,000 but that's rare and kid has to be absolutely gorgeous beyond belief and there would be a 'lockout contract' meaning the kid can't do any ad of a competing brand, and may not even be allowed to appear any event sponsored by a competitor, etc.

In any case, I hope my advice helps and wish you the best of luck.
