Un Condemns Car Bomb Attacks That Killed 46 Near Syrian Refugee Camp In Turkey

<p>NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- The United Nations (UN) on Monday condemned the car bombs that killed at least 46 people and injured dozens of others near a Syrian refugee base in southeastern Turkey over the weekend.

<p>In a press statement, the UN's 15-member Security Council reiterated the condemnation from Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, underlining that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that "any acts of terrorism are criminal unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed."

<p>The attack took place on Saturday in the town of Reyhanli, in Turkey's Hatay province. Media reports said Turkish authorities had detained at least nine people in connection with the attacks, but angry locals have protested against the government as little action has been taken in retaliation. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, meanwhile, insisted that the country would not be drawn into military conflict.

<p>Over 300,000 Syrian refugees are currently located in Turkey, and the province of Hatay is home to a number of minorities such as Nusayris and Kurds.

<p>The Council urged authorities to bring to justice the perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of "these reprehensible acts of terrorism" and urged the international community to cooperate with Turkish authorities in their investigation and legal processes.
