Hello,

there are several words in thai for the verb " fall "; can you explain when to use them, with examples, especially what is the difference between

"ตก" and " ร่วง " ?

I understand that we use " ร่วง " to say "leaves are falling from the tree " in the sense " falling from somewhere or from something " ) , but I have already heard thai

people use " ร่วง " for glasses (เเว่นตาร่วง) or mouse ( computer mouse ) falling down : in these two last examples, why not use " ตก " ?

As I understand it,

"ตก" applies to something that falls without reference to where it is falling from, e.g. ฝนตก

"ร่วง" applies to something that falls from something else,even if that something else is not specified, e.g. ฤดูใบไม้ร่วง the Fall season (when leaves fall.)

"ล้ม" is when a person or something that is standing falls over, e.g. คนล้ม also appears in derivative expressions like ล้มละลาย to go bankrupt

"หลุด" is when something that is supposed to be connected with something else either becomes unconnected or actually drops away entirely, e.g. เน็ตเวอร์กหลุด the network connection is dropped กระดุมหลุด (meaning either the button drops to the floor or it merely becomes unbuttoned.)

I am sure there are many more words related to fall.

like explained in the video, ร่วง means to detach and fall

เมาส์ตกโต๊ะ means that the mouse falls from the table (without detaching from the computer)

เมาส์ร่วง means that the mouse detaches from the computer (and falls)

same for the glasses.

แว่นตาตก the glasses fall (for instance of a table)

แว่นตาร่วง the glasses fall of your face/nose

wow, what a great video and a lot of info, i'm definitely going to check out more of that guys videos. that's the first thing i've seen for my level, something that really gets into the details
