I am looking at section 1.6 Any other name that you have been known by on SET M for applying for IIR

My wife changed her Christian name about 12 years ago and she has a Thai certificate showing the Name change.

On the application form, It does not ask for any proof of name change, But we did submit the Certificate when we applied for the Spouse Visa and the Wife Thinks that we also got the Certificate translated which the UKBA in Bangkok kept.

When Filling in Section 1.6, Do we have to submit the Thai Certificate and will we have to submit a Translated copy. If we do need to get a translation done, Does anyone know a cheap place in the UK to get this done.

The UKBA will have all my wife's details on file, So we could make reference that the translated Certificate was submitted when applying for the Spouse Visa and that they have a copy.

We did not mention the name change when applying for her 2 Visitors Visa's and everything was OK.

Regarding filling in the section 1.6, Will it be better to state the dates on the changes?

you can get translations done at the thai consulate (hull). they will forward the certificate to the thai embassy

edit; I would get all the necessary translations done before you apply. just in case.

I will get a translation done for my thai wife's name change, before I apply for ILE visa

The UKBA have it on record that she has changed her name, so she must answer this question correctly.

They also have a record of the name change certificate so, unless her name has changed since her last application, I don't see the need to submit a copy of it again.

If you do submit it you will need to submit a translation as well. No need to get the Thai consulate or Thai embassy involved; unless they can do it cheaper than an agency. I can't recommend any particular agency other than suggest that you look in Yellow Pages, 118 118 or similar.

Get quotes from several; and don't be surprised that it will be a lot more expensive than having it done in Thailand!

Thank you for your Reply's The wife was talking about sending it to her sister in Thailand and getting it Translated over in Thailand, But there is a risk of the document going missing. I have had one quote £44 . If i remember right, it was 300 Baht in Thailand for each document

i agree with you 7by7, They will have this Document on file, So no need to re-submit plus they have not asked for any name change certificate,

Regarding our divorce papers, ( it states you must provide the original copies of divorse or dissolution) They are asking for these in section 2.23, I don't see the need in this when we had to submit these when we applied for the Spouse Visa,

If they ask for them, then you should provide them.

If you want to make sure that you have provided all the required documents you could use the settlement checking service. There will be a fee, but they will check that the application is complete and you will get your documents back, except her passport, straight away.

We are going to go either to Glasgow or Liverpool and pay the extra £400, it will be worth it for peace of mind, Not sure i can use the settlement checking service before heading off to either Glasgow or Liverpool or if we take the oringanal copy with us when submitting the application in case they want to see it.

The settlement checking service is for postal applications only.

When attending your appointment, a trained local authority officer will:
check you have completed your SET(M) form correctly;
check you have paid the correct application fee;
copy and return your valuable documents; and
ensure your application is valid and post it to us.

I have heard that if attending a PEO to apply in person then the PEO will check the application and advise if anything is missing; but whether they do this before or after the (non refundable) fee has been paid I don't know.

can the UKBA not make it easy by giving a phone number or Email address to ask questions like i have asked. I have looked for numbers and email address's but you end up chasing your tail.
