Having Just Got My Yellow Book

Featured Replies

It looks like we will be renting out the house and travelling around for a period. We eventually intend to move back into where we are now.

So what should happen with the yellow book? I just keep it, like my name is in the house ... similar to when Thais have their name in a house but frequently live somewhere else.

Anyone actually know? thanks

Just keep it till you settle down somewhere permanently. it is your official residence, so all official mail from the government will come there. Including speeding tickets if you drive a car.

It is important for immigration. if you do not live on the address where you listed in the Tabien baan and want to apply at another immigration office, they will want to see proof that you actually live elsewhere, in the form of a contract or utility bill.

Just hold onto it in the interim. Legally, or maybe just technically, it probably can't be used as a current proof of domicile but I doubt you will be needing to do that while traveling about? It's not as if there's a specific 'yellow book police' tasked with checking on their validity.

Good points from Mario; posted while I was typing! If there's any visa extensions to be filed while traveling, you will need another proof of domicile.

What we intend doing is renting somewhere for a yearish and then maybe move somewhere else if we find somewhere we like better... I.m fed up with Bangkok and all the traffic. I was thinking of still doing 90 Day and annual extension at Nonthaburi.

Maybe I will never come back to live in this house, who knows! Present plan is that my wife will eventually come back here to live out her days, maybe after I'm no longer above ground. Don't really want to sell the house as it is nice and in a lovely position.

Leave it alone and keep it as it is

The 90-day reporting should not be an issue; even if they don't exactly know your face, the existing stamps in the passport will make you a 'local'. If your extension is retirement, you could possibly wing-it at the existing Immigration office despite being non-domiciled at the listed home. Possible to do the same if you are on a marriage extension and they don't do rigorous checks on domicile. But technically, you aren't really living there are you?
