I was awoken last night to the sound of a motorbike tearing down the road. I say tearing, but it was really doing quite a modest speed, but making plenty of what seemed like unnecessary noise to my untrained ear. Who are the <deleted> responsible? There's a guy in our neighborhood with a loud bike -- he goes out almost every night around 10-11 pm and returns around 4 am. Almost always wakes up Hubby. Many mornings, Hubby stays up, has coffee and then walks around the moat between 5 am - 6 am. This morning he reports that there will probably be one less loud motorcycle somewhere in CM. Apparently, there was an accident near the Chang Puek gate and police were in the process of retrieving a young Thai male body from the moat. There was a smashed motorbike near the moat. Hubby estimated the event probably occurred around 4 am. Edit: oh, the OP wants to know the motivation. I'll hazard a guess -- the riders are drunk, young, think they're indestructable and want to show off the big equipment between their legs. Personally I really dont mind them, I'm used to them already. Much more welcoming than hearing police and ambulance sirens back when I was living in Boston and Providence. This kind of thing isnt race based. Its just boys on bikes..with afew beers in them..at the weekend. Its global. Guys do it in cars too. ..ie: suped up Volkswagen GTI's in the west, vibrating even when idle. My observation through life is that people who make a loud noise be it on a motor bike or in a car ,shouting,playing loud music etc are crying out for attention and basically insecure. Just look at CHIPs or other highway patrol with their big, whisper quiet bikes and good safety records. But if you still think that riding that bike is so dangerous that you have to disturb the peace everywhere you go, do the right thing and give it up. They are still in the middle of their "vroom vroom" phase that is supposed to end at about 12 years old. What is more pathetic is the adults who try to imitate them with their modified Harley. This breed of idiots is sadly proliferating at great speed in this country. Can you imagine that those retards voluntarily modified their bikes so that they can wake up half of the population in a 5km radius everytime they pull the throttle? There are few things in this world that show more selfishness and stupidity. Generally I don't notice it during the day - it's competing with all sorts of other noise pollution . . . but at night it's noticeable and you'll get people's backs up.
