I need to get a new 90 day Non-Immigrant B visa before next week. I already have the documents from my employer, etc so now it is just a matter of leaving Bangkok and choosing a Thai embassy to go to. Depending on flight prices my obvious choices are:

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Vientienne, Laos

Hanoi, Vietnam

Penang, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Singapore

Does anyone have any experience applying for a Non-Imm B visa at any of these Thai embassies? Which is most likely to be hassle-free? When I did this at the Thai embassy in London it cost me 40 pounds and took 2 days. I presume this will be the same at these places?

Thanks for any info or recommendations.

Penang, Malaysia

Both Embassies will take 2 days to issue the non-B. You take your paperwork before noon and pick it up the following afternoon.

Just a little extra info on KL.

Application drop-off is at 9.30 AM, get there at 9 ish and you can fill the (provided) form whilst sitting in the shade :o Pick up is 11 AM next morning, very quick, you get your PP off the gate man so no queue.

Then you can easily make it to the airport for the mid-afternoon MAS flight.

Penang are still asking for a WP-3, if you don't have one you won't get a B there.

This was posted last month regarding Non B in Penang, hope it helps!

Hi All,

Just arrived back from Penang.

UPDATE

To renew 1 year "Non B" Multiple (Required Documents)

1. Company Afidavit

2. Comapny Share Register (Very Important)

3. Letter from Company reuqesting renewal.

4. 2 Photo's

5. 1 photo copy of passport and work permit.

6. Application form, passport and work permit.

While we where there, 8 people got refused because they did not have the company's share register!!

Also, i did not photo copy my work permit, they did it for me but told me if i didn't have a phto copy next year they will give me tourist visa, so beware, JOBS WORTH STAFF!!!

AVOID VIENTIANNE--unless you enjoy your life being impacted by the capricious whims of moody clerks who often get up on the wrong side of the bed and take it out on the poor suckers who come in with passport and documents in hand.

Trust me, I made 13 fruitless trips there in 12 months, showing up with more than 25 official documents.

Bureaucrats from H _ L L. Surly and rude. Gestapos in a previous life. I even watched one of them cackle like a witch when she thought she found a date discrepancy on my paper work. When I pointed out that she was in error, and proved that the date was, indeed, accurate (which she begrudgingly acknowledged), it was like I had murdered her firstborn. Her face turned to a permanent scowl. No visa for moi, that day, for sure!

Do I sound just a little negative? Thanks for letting me rant; I feel much better.

In contrast, I received my Visa-B in 4 days from the Thai consulate in Los Angeles (that included Fed-Ex delivery both ways; 4 documents required). Didn't even have to show up in person. It's gotta be easier ANY where else in the world except Vientianne.

Thanks for the replies...at the moment it seems to be between Phnom Penh and Singapore as these have the cheapest flights available (for some reason a flight to Singapore with AirAsia is cheaper than to Phom Penh, but obviously everything else will be cheaper in Cambodia).

Anyone applied for a visa at the Phnom Penh embassy recently?

I was advised by my lawyer to go to Singapore, she was right. Put in the paperwork on Tues at 10.30am, picked up the visa next day at 2pm. No problem, no questions.

Do you think it makes a difference as to which company you are going with? I applied for a Non-Imm B from Vientiane when I worked at AUA and it was absolutely no problem. I have to go again later this once for a new job and was going to go there...

I've been advised by my school (Dara Academy in CM) that there is no problem, but is there?
