I would like to get advice from anyone who has had any experience sending quantities of stuff to NZ or Australia. I'm not talking about big bulky stuff like refrigerators, TV's, furniture etc.

It will mainly be boxes of clothes, books, baby gear, personal effects, some kitchenware etc.

There's no urgency, going by sea would be fine. Names of some companies would be great.

The stuff we want to move is in Hua Hin.

MIn charge is gonna be $2,500 unless you use TNT/DHL

Thanks kurnell, this is exactly the sort of info I'm looking for. $2500 seems a bit high though.

I've got to weigh up whether it's worth sending it or not. I reckon here will be about 5-6 big boxes.

I'll look into TNT/DHL.

There is a min charge for everything in removals as you have to pay for customs clearance at both end whether a few boxes or a container, trucking at both ends, a packing crew/delivery crew, fumigation, customs inspection etc. It adds up.

TNT won't be cheap either, depending on the final weight/volume

Thanks. I won't need a packing crew though as will pack and unpack the boxes myself.

I thought customs inspections were random? And fumigations only if there are wooden items?

I used 7 seas to bring 6 boxes to Thailand, $800 odd from memory. Biggest problem was thai customs, they borrowed all my computer software, various utensils not available here, books, smashed the face on my computer tower looking for contraband? and generally helped themselves to what ever they wanted. Luckily going out should not cop it but you never know.
