Stand-Up Comedy Chiang Mai?

Featured Replies

Has anyone found anywhere where you can watch a live comedy show in/around Chiang Mai?

Watching the traffic police at checkpoints is pretty hilarious.

(Thought I'd get that one in before someone else did. ;) )

You did indeed beat me, but nevertheless I agree with you it is pretty hilarious and free. laugh.png

You two are easily amused.

I prefer the guy who occasionally appears at Thai Pai Gate and the main intersection of the Night Bazaar preaching with his arms out and at the top of his voice.

The Hairy Krishnas always get me.

(i know that's not how you spell it, before TV spellcheckers attack)

If you mean Thai comedy shows, even in Thai they are not funny to most farangs, though the Thais love them dearly. Put it down to cultural differences.

If you mean farang shows, I very much doubt there is sufficient a market to make it worthwhile.

The comedy is here, and you do not even have to stand up!

Not to mention that any non-Thai performers run the risk of being arrested for breach of the labour / work permit regulations, just as a number of amateur, unpaid musicians were a couple of years ago.

You are not at all fully informed about the situation having to do with a very popular (and enjoyable) jazz venue on the moat. You should do a lot more research (even on ThaiVisa!) before making such casual observations.

If I remember rite those visa violations were in response to one person boasting about it on Face book and claiming he also had a business and no Visa.

Not sure of why the second group was stopped I think it had some thing to do with just one of the group and it was probably to show farongs that they were being watched but try to keep it down. I have heard nothing since about Jam sessions in bars.

Are you suggesting that the arrests didn't happen?
